A friend of mine and myself fished the Race Track this morning. We got 2 fish at 7:45 in the morning. A 10 & a 7lber. I got mine on a Glow Hot spot and 5.0 Cop Car Coyote, and My buddy got his on a chrome Herring Dodger and Hoochie. It got real rough out there. We did manage to nail a nice Native crab trap. It had a water logged float so we didn't see it. It seemed to be of commercial origin so we stuffed the rope and floats inside of it and took it in to 300ft and gave it a proper burial. I can't believe how many traps have been dredged up this year. Easy has got 2 I believe and I have also got 2. We are neck and neck in the Crab Trap Derby.

Hey Easy, thanks again for a good day on the water. Those almost keepers were fun to land despite being a little under the legal limit.
For anyone who has a chance to fish with Easy Limits, don't miss it. He's a wealth of fishing knowledge and worked hard at getting us into fish (I felt a bit lazy lounging in the front of the boat since it was difficult for 2 guys to work the downriggers in the back).
Easy Limits, when we have the opportunity, we can head North and take my boat and I'll do the work.

JD, Congratulations to your son. Doesn't that make you proud to be a father. My son is 4 and for some reason he is scared to death of the noise from the outboards. I hope he gets use to it. I don't want him spending the weekends at the mall with mommy!!! Anyway, It seems we have a tie for first place in the Crab Trap Derby!!! I'm afraid that I'll lose a downrigger on one of those bast@rds. There must be hundreds of them floating around.

We fished the Sekiu Derby this weekend. To get on the board in 5th place you had to be north of 20.5 pounds. Winner was around 24.75 or so. Saturday was the best fishing we've had in the past 8 derbys up there. We boated 5 to 16.5 pounds and had another 3 or 4 to the hooks. Sunday was slower with 25 fish checked for 30 boats (More typical of this time of year). Bait was a lot spottier on Sunday. That's Blackmouth fishing for you!!!

Yuppers, He's a happy boy...
I damn near lost my DR to the second crab pot.
But then I pulled the first one up on 20lb test...I would have never believed it could be done, Hey Easy..I have had almost all my hookups just to the south of the beach and north of the flat thats at about 120'...Trolled all the way down to the grassy hill and back and had several more hits once we got back to Redondo? Sound about right? and does it reverse for the incoming tide?

JD, you were definately in the right spot. We got all our fish trolling the shoreline north of the launch. The fish we caught were suspended (50' down in 100' of water).
BTW, what was the deal with the poor water clarity? The water seemed really stained with only a foot or two of visibility.

Easy That nice warm weather we got started an algea bloom...went to olympia in the boat Sunday and it looked like mud all the way down there and back...from what I heard it cleared up pretty good at about 80'. We tried in to about 80' deep and never saw much on the fishfinder(not that that means much) saw a lot at about 140 to 180 in 200+ no hits though and did not stay out there too long. Glad you went south Sat. Looks like the CR was good to you guys. I may get to hit it one more time on Wed... One of our customers regional managers wants to go out,

Fished Redondo sunday. Had one double take down all morning. Landed one of the fish. Just a keeper. Never saw the other one, but it was lthe larger of the two. Did manage to land the second crab trap in the last three weeks at redondo. It was in over 200' of water with 100' of rope. Donated it to the "needy".

Juggernaut....forgot my manners. Nice meeting you Sunday. Thanks for the crab pot. It looks like it has a few hours on it laying around at the bottom of the Puget Sound, but I'll test it out when the crabbing reopens.

Took a friend and his son out in our 18 footer to the racetrack yesterday (Monday) morning, launching out of Everett, to try for some BM.
Tuned the marine radio into weather channel 4 as we no-waked out in sight of the ported Navy destroyer. They reported winds would be up to 25 (can't remember if they said knots or mph - doesn't matter) and wind waves 3 to 5 feet. Debated on turning back in, but went out anyway. Got to the racetrack, wind picked up somethin' fierce and the waves were just as they said. Secured the canopy down, tried fishin' for a awhile, then decided to head back in.
No fish to the boat. Won't get another chance for a few weeks.
It was a mighty wet carnival ride back, with a majestic Coast Guard ship keeping their eye on us. Made it back with no problems.
It's nice to know the CG is there if you need them.

I did find that the Thomas Guide lists it as Hat Island...non of my charts do though I will be up there at first light in the morning, I managed to worm my way into a day off to go fishing because I will be taking one of our customers out on the bosses dime The best part is he knows the area really well

Starcraft Tom, If you're in search of the real Hat Island, It is north of Anacortes. Just south of Saddlebag Island. When I first started fishing out of Everett, I was always looking at the map trying to find Hat Island myself.

Well I got up this morning at 4 to a message that he would not be able to make it up to Everett so I put in @ armeni and ran down to the Des Moines area, fished for a bit and then met him at the DesMoines Marina and wound up Fishing Redondo again at about 930 or so...took me about a half hour to find bait and as soon as we did WHAM! this thing came out of the water about 5 times, I've never seen a BM jump like that! ) Done At 10:05 with one 10.5lb football and one 5 lber, Had the whole day off so we went over to Maury Island and fished for pile perch 'till about 4

Star, The Hat Island (Gendy Island) the everyone is talking about is in Everett. The 'Race track' runs between the North end of Hat and the South tip of Camano. If you launch out of Everett when you come to the end of the Jetty Hat will be directly to your right about two miles out. Coming from the Edmonds area Hat is directly East of the Kingston. ferry dock. The King fishery actually starts in June at the Tulalip Bubble. It started in June last year and the year before. So either your friend had his dates messed up on he was fishing at the wrong time. The Bubble fishery is an entire hatchery scene. The kings are planted by the Tulalips and are programmed just to come back to the Bubble. Once they get there they have no place to go so they either get caught, netted or end up dying. There is no place for them to spawn. There is an expected return of 6000 kings there this year. If your landlord got 30+ kings there last year he did better than anyone else I heard of. I fished there every Friday and Saturday from June 1 till the silver started showing and it was a mediocre fishery at best. Hope this helps

Johnny D:
Cool deal on the digitrolls! I have been contemplating getting electric DR's and considered e-bay, but have been leery of the quality of merchandise.
I suppose one should buy from a seller with a good history and reviews.
Any advice is appreciated, since I have not succumbed to the e-bay experience yet.
By the way, I may be treading on soft ground here, did you buy the digitrolls because of the price, or because you prefer them to other brands?
I keep hearing Scotty, Scotty, Scotty from others.

I had a friend go out last week who caught a dandy 12 lb. blackmouth up north here on Freshwater Bay. I now believe blackmouth fishing is closed. I sure hope they have a chinook season although I don't agree with just keeping hatchery. Just think about all the native chinook that will get netted and probably killed.

One way to find screaming deals on ebay is to run the search engine with every combination of misspelling and funky names you can think of, A lot of the time folks will misspell simple words, or put things in the wrong catagory. For example if you want to find downriggers search for winch, winches, outrigger, *rigger, down* etc. Use the wild card any way you can and learn to use the advanced search to exclude keywords for items that have no relationship to what you are looking for. We buy a lot of stuff on ebay, and always ,always, always pay with a credit card that has a buyer protection plan on it and pay thru ebay or paypal or some other reputable service. If you mail off a money order you have little or no recourse if the sh1t hits the fan. And remember if you pay with a service NO ONE will ever email you and ask for your card #, We get these now and then and we forward them straight to ebay, Its like catalog shopping on the phone, If someone called you out of the blue and wanted your card # you would not give it to them, but if you called them to make an order its a little different. Other than that you have the general idea. BTW the ones I got were listed as cannon digitrol fishing winches, I found them by running a search for can* digitr* use your imagination, it takes some time but can be worth it. As far as canon vs scotty, look at the ads on all the websites, everybody is being paid by scotty, and some guys will flat out lie about other brands, look around for what you want, and what has the features you would like and as long as its a major brand I think you will be fine. Penn, scotty, canon adn there are a couple others, I think most of the guides I know of ( and thats not really very many) use canon, with a few penns. One the other side of the coin scotty is very popular so parts and accessories are easy to find... And Downriggin will probably have more good info for ya than I could ever comeup with Good luck

Chaser / P-Martin--it was your reports that got me over there, thanks again. I got the 1st one on a green / blue plug. The second 2 were on cop car coyotes behind a flasher. That is the best place to fish. No one there, lots of bait on the bottom. Got em between 90 and 130' down. I also noticed a lot of suspended fish around Mission bar, out in the middle of the channel, by that tower. Got a 22" er that Monday out in the middle. Also saw a pod of whales, looked like gray whales, that was a 1st too, wish I had my camera with me that day.
4-Salt, the twins are reeling in fish now. They did need a some help on that big boy though. But you can't imagine how interested my kids are in fishing now after that day.
I also had a little excitement on my second fish, as I lost the top to my net trying to land the second one, it got tangled in the downrigger and I had to reach down and grab it by the gill plate and pull it in.
