I just finished my taxes and found out I cant afford to go to Alaska this summer. I fished the Ayakulik on Kodiak last year and I'm dying to get back. Oh well, there's always next year! I do get to hit Port Hardy in August, that should be fun! Still sucks giving MORE money away.

Hey Elkrun...How's the Halibut fishing in Port Hardy in August (if you do that)? I've been fishing out of Port Mcneilll the last few summers at the end of July beginning of August and haven't had much success. The salmon fishing is phenominal though, so I can't complain.

I have never fished Port Hardy before. I have been researching the trip and it seems as if the opportunity will be there. I plan on hitting it hard for kings, then going after butts. I cant get enough halibut, I could eat it every day. That and Mexican food! laugh Are you getting kings or silvers at McNeill? I am looking for big kings, I get plenty of opportunity for silvers on my fly rod and Neah.

Elkrun...The kings are definitely available. The last three years have been fantastic. Last year our biggest was 35 and smallest (that we kept) was 26. I did see a few over 40 each day!

I've never gone as far north at Port Hardy, but I can only assume the fishing is just as good. I've heard the area around Duval Point can be excellent along with numerous other areas.

Back in '92 I fished out of Port Hardy with a couple of friends. We went out to Nahwitti Bar, the bar between the Vancouver Island and Hope Island. We caught a bunch of Halibut on the Bar. There is a really cool Harbor called Bull harbor on Hope Island. Great place to anchor up for the night. We got one Halibut in about 40 feet of water trolling for salmon. It was a BIG one!

Good Luck, eh!
