What size of herring are you using right now in the CR? My buddy and I will be down for the FLotilla next week and want to see what sizes everyone is using and what they are biting on.
Erndog, Kev, Fishslayer, ...anyone else still making the trip? If so where are you guys staying and launching from?

Sky guy, I would also go with the green lable. If anything maybe a touch smaller. I did manage to get the weekend off and will be playing it by ear as to if I'm heading down or not. If its closed sunday I will probley skip it all together. We will keep in touch

As long as you get that nice roll, size is not as important. Also keep on the bottom, 18'' drop.

Green Label cured Blue(Smurfed!)
(in a quart jar, 1 cup salt , 1 teaspoon blue food color, water, add herring - keep in freezer!)
With the Sunday closure, I got an Orygon 1 day and trolled the Multnomah Channel last Sunday. It was slow, but that seemed to be everywhere last weekend. You can pick a license up at the St. Helens Marina which is right on the water.
I launch in St. Helens and camp on Sand Island.
Bring Cold Beer!

I like blue label, but green works fine as well. I just like a big bait.

Thanks guys for replies. Gutz, we will have plenty of cold beer and hard pops, and probably launch at the slip you informed me of when I bumped into you last week. As for Camping on the island, I think we will pass after hearing your detailed description of the eggs you have hidden on the island for easter morning. We're going to "camp out" at the Best Western in St. Helens. I dont want any part a that. My fishing partner stinks enough like rotten eggs after a night or two of drinking. Nice to hear of your good luck Spawnout, Hope to see you too this weekend.

Directions to St. Helens Launch
From Hwy 30 turn at the Anchorage sign (Picture of an anchor, the fairgrounds and DMV also listed on the post but are in the wrong direction) Turn towards River, which is left if coming from Rainier. Don't get off this road. It will go past a Red Apple Grocery store then the Liquor Store. It curves around a bit and eventually you will come to the Columbia Theatre. Turn Left. Turn Left and go to the end of the road. The launch is $3. Sand Island is 100 yards across from the launch.
With the Sunday closure I will be fishing the Multnomah Channel. You can get a one day license at the Marina in St. Helens. You don't even have to get off the water!
Oh yeah, this is about Herring. They have them at the Marina but they don't open until 7am.
See you there!
