If I go down to buy a new boat, what is a realistic amount to offer below thier asking price? I know with R.V.'s the mark-up is a pretty standard 25-40% If I go down and offer 25% less than their price are they gonna walk away laughing?

Thanks.

No sales guys will walk away laughing. He may laugh, but he won't walk away. If you make a somewhat reasonable offer, he knows you are a fairly serious buyer. These guys usually live off commissions, or a meager wage plus, so he needs you to buy a sled. Go in and make you offer. Sometimes they can be creative to get you the boat you want at a price you can be somewhat happy with. Maybe they have to strip off some options to get the price down, or maybe a lesser motor if it is an outboard.

I always say go in and make your offer. Even if they do laugh and walk away, what have you lost? But by the same token, what if they don't laugh and walk away?

I don't really care what you offer them as long as the one you end up with has room for me. I can't wait to hit the river with ya. beer
