Does anybody troll flies anymore? I see that a lot of you troll the grand slam bucktails but does anybody use any other flies?
I'd really appreciate it if someone could post some pictures of what flies they do use. Thank you David

elkrun- how deep are you running your flies? what size? I have a type VI i was going to try when i am next up there. I am also tying up a lot of tube flies in baitfish patterns to check out. I also have a type III and a slime line to try. do you have the big dumbell eyes on your flies? I really want to get a king in that salt on a fly. I have done it in estuaries but the way those 6-7 pound kings were fighting the other day it would be a ton of fun.

martie, I have not fished silvers in salt for a few years, and I'm not familiar with the grandslam bucktail . But we used to fish Sekiu with flies for silvers. Buy some Q-tips with hollow shafts cut them in half chuck them in the fly vise. Tie on bucktail in white, blue, and green. Wrap and whip finish 1/4 long head, and glue on eyes. Slide 4-8 pearl beads on your leader then fly. Fish with18-36" leader and flasher. We fished downriggers 14-40' on the tide rip. Tie a bunch, when they're hot they're hot. our best day was 42 before lunch and 42 after lunch. Good luck!

I'll throw flies in the Sound around inlets and troll them north (Sekiu). I don't think the schools of Silvers are thick enough to bucktail these days in the Sound. For Sekiu, just about any color or pattern will work. Early morning or late evening bring the best results.. Combos of pink/white or chart/white are good bets. However, nearly any combo of colors will bring result.
I like an intermediate line and will usually place a piece of foam in front of the fly to help it skip. I tend to avoid the bucktail and opt for more flashy materials- Krystal Flash, Flash-a-bou. For an over winging material I like Artic Fox.
For the best hook-ups, go with a tube version..

I think its because they are so scent orientated. I get tons of silvers using a sink tip line. the first year I used a T-300 but it didn't hold up well to the salt water. I will be using an intermediate running line with various sink tips to find the right depth. How close to tatoosh were you fishing when you found kings... any silvers?
