A question from the ignorant masses: Do people heading south around Cape Flattery normally cut through the Tatoosh Island channel or do they go around???

Any input appreciated.

I always cut through unless I'm heading to swiftsure. Stay close to the island side and watch out for the submerged rocks that pop up in the trough of the swells....

I too always cut through the inside passage unless it is too foggy out. As mentioned previously, there is a submerged rock (submerged only at high tide) about 50+ feet across. It is pretty easy to spot even when mostly submerged by the way waves break on it. At low to mid level tides it is fully exposed.
When the tide is running hard it gets pretty choppy in there for a couple of hundred yards but take your time during choppy moments & you will be fine. Headed there for a week next weekend.

Thanks for the info. I will time my try at mid tide so as to see this rock.
