Its rare to have a bad day fishing, but 2 in a row????

Day one- Neah Bay with my chronically sea sick best friend who wont give up fishing in the salt. He bats a thousand for sea sickness. He decides to throw up INSIDE my boat, then doesn't notice the motor cowling as it blows off my 2001 yamaha 4 stroke motor while making a run to the top of our trolling area. It must have sank like a rock, we looked for it for an hour. He was sitting 2 feet away looking right at it! That little mistake cost me $350.... and 4 weeks wait for the new one to be backordered mad

Day two- Again fishing Neah Bay with another friend. He hooks a nice silver and gets it next to the boat. I forgot my polorized sunglasses and am wearing regular sunglasses so I cant see if the fish is clipped. After several passes by the boat without being able to tell, I decide to wet my hand and tail the fish long enough to get a peek. My buddy is trying to get a good look too while I am leaning over the side, I reach, grab the flasher and reach for the tail... the fish thrashes and sends the hook into deep into the joint on my pinky. the fish was clipped but of course I dropped it.... I tell my friend his hook better be pinched to which he replies it is. WRONG! Size 2/0 gamakatsu buried into my finger WAY past the supposedly pinched barb! beathead Now I'm pissed. evil After a rather lengthy swearing session. We picked up and left.

I will not be fishing tomorrow. I'm taking the day off and maybe sunday too... Hopefully my bad karma will disappear after a little family time. My barbed hook friend will be finding bananas in every vest pocket and tackle box he owns for the next few trips. banana

Going to bed now, thanks for the vent time!

Keep your head up Elkie!
About five years ago I hooked myself in the Arse with a 1/0 while surf fishing. Only my hook did have barbs and you couldn't even see it. Then again, maybe that's due to my hairy..... never mind..

Sorry about your troubles.

I have to agree that your fishing friends aren't the best. Similar to my fishing friends actually. I've had better luck fishing with strangers than the luck of fishing with most of them.

I either have to baby sit, do everything my self, or the friends think they know what are doing and are clueless.

Makes me want to search out people who fish for boat friends and stop taking regular friends fishing! I may be posting open seats in the future when I actually have time to go fishing again!

Jim-
I hate the baby sitting part. One of my fishing "partners" has been at it as long as I have (30+ yrs) AND HE STILL CANT EVEN TIE HIS OWN GEAR UP! He is constantly borrowing AND LOSING my stuff. He didn't even have a salmon rod until I made him get one. He wants one rod that does it all from trout to hailbut.... and preferably changes its own line as well. He seems to think that my gear is his gear. Where do you draw the line? When is it too much? Maybe dear abby will have the answer! I am done babysitting inept fishing partners... I am not saying I wont take someone out from time to time and help them learn how to fish. I'm saying no more cottling someone who has had years to learn what to do and when to do it. Maybe I'll have to run a classified ad for a competent fishing parter. slap

I really understand where your coming from, have had my share of "bad" fishing partners in the past. Spend most of my time now fishing alone, because of that reason. I sympathize with you. If i am ever going out that way i will try and give a shout ,because i am always looking for someone to fish with that has, knows and will take care of his own @#$@. I am sure that you understand, Fishy...

You're just to nice of a guy. Lower the boom. Make em clean their own puke and bait their own hook. If I would have known I would have had you tying up my gear on the river. And rowing the boat. And cleaning the fish{ oh I forgot we've never caught fish together.} Good story though. I'll get ahold of you when I get back from Moses Lake.
