I too was out at neah bay for 2 days with good success. I got tired of using bait and fished the spoons you guys had recomended for the first time. My 4" coyote in cop car is all beat up now and i lost the 4" army truck to a king i was tring to get in a little fast. I also now have a coho killer that is all bent and beat up. laugh Goodtimes
I was also able to get a lot of silvers on my fly rod. the chart/white clouser was good for the silvers and one pink, but a big tube fly i had tied finally got me into the kings I was hoping to hook. I only hooked 3 and didn't land any of them but the Kings are a lot of fun on the fly. beer

I also saw a shark on the surface out there but the salmon were keeping me too busy to make a cast at him with my fly rod. would this be a blue shark? he was about 5 feet long.

i didnt put any scent on the spoons. I thought about it but figured i had already spent enough cash at the the store and needed some left over for dinner.

I would be interested in your fly setup. I hope to get to Neah Bay in the next few weeks and would love to get into some salmon on a fly rod. Sinking line, 8 wt, etc.? Also, where was the best place to fish with fly's?

Thanks,
David

DL-
I was fishing with a "slime line" which is a clear line that sinks very slowly. It only gets the fly about 3 inches under the surface if you are stripping.
If I had a full sinking line I would have used it for the Kings but a floater would have worked just fine for the silvers as I could see them on the surface.
I was using an 8 wt which was just right for the kings and probably a little much for 6 pound coho.
At first i just trolled the fly with good results but then I started casting to the visible silvers and working my way right along the rips that had all the bait. I was in the ocean off of tatoosh on a bearing of 210. just watch for the birds and bait, the salmon will be there.

the kings were all around 10-15 pounds that i hooked, although I did see some bigger fish caught, but they were caught deeper than I was getting with my fly i believe.
