i finally got out on the water last weekend and ran into a bit of an unexpected problem. i charged the batteries got the motor running clean. after i dropped it in the water started up and put it in reverse i realized the steering had locked. apparently it's not an uncommon problem. i think i'm taking it in in a week to auburn sports, but if anyone has any suggestions as to good repair shops in the seattle region that i could get into more quickley could you let me know. i can't believe i finally have a bit of time to get on the water and my boat is broken.

Sushi-- The cable is most likely frozen at one spot right at the motor. Hook a come-a-long to something to one side (in or out of boat) and break it free --then grease or oil what you have access to and turn r,l,rl,r,l, etc.

Take it to Steve's Marine Repair in the Auburn area. He is fast, very good, and charges reasonable rates. 253-569-4138

You won't regret it. He has taken care of my boat a couple of times. I won't take it anywhere else.

I recommend Jacobson's in Ballard. They fixed the same problem on my 60 hr. and their not that busy right now, faster turn-around time.

Whatever you do, don't take it to Olympic Boats. They have good mechanics, but if you leave your boat overnight, you run the risk of having all your stuff ripped off. I had my boat in for service last year and someone stole my kicker motor off it.
