Never ceases to amaze me at the scum in the world anymore. My mothers boyfriend got his stolen 2 weeks ago (Marysville) and the cop told them that since the 1st of the year there have been 16,000 theft reorts in that area.....

But I bet the cops have caught all the dangerous people out there that do 70mph in a 65 zone... mad

Sorry Bud, I have had my kicker stolen in the past and it makes you feel kinda vulnerable. Good luck finding a replacement! smile

I feel your pain. I had my Honda Foreman 400 stolen just before Christmas right out of my carport. Homeowners would not cover the loss because it was a "recreational vehicle" and the loss incurred was not great enough to claim on my taxes. The Sherriff said that a few others had been stolen in the area around that time. Also said that I'd probably never see it again...and so far he was right. I had both my kickers and riding lawn mower in the same spot but they didn't touch those so it could have been worse. Not that it can get much worse than having a $6000 quad stolen. I hope you get it back. ALL THIEVES SHOULD BE LYNCHED!!!

Good luck finding a replacement motor, this is probably a good place to start. Know how you feel. I bought a new Trophy Pro last year and 2 months later someone broke into it and stole 2 scotty downriggers, fishfinder/GPS, battery and bunch of other stuff I had locked up in the cabin. While they were tearing out the battery, they shorted out one of the wires and fried some chip in the motor. While my boat was at Olympic boats in Fife, someone else stole my kicker motor. Go figure. Nothing was ever found, but fortunately my homeowners covered me.
Almost makes me want to stand watch with a loaded shotgun in the dark with my boat sitting out front to see if I can catch a theif. mad

I have wanted to ask this question many times, but why dosen't a club or enforcement (WSP) come up with some funding for 'tracing chips' (mechanisms) like on autos for finding those stolen items????
If you could use a spy in the sky to locate items implanted w/ a chip, you might get rid of a few 'fences' and thieves. Outboards w/ implants would be good bait. computer

I have an older Evinrude 7.5 I'd sell for $350.00 and an older Merc. 9.8 $450. Both run great - no problems. I'll either keep the one that doesn't sell or sell both and buy a newer 9.8.

I believe Lojack makes tracers for smaller items like jackhammers. They're about the same size as an outboard. The Lojack service just became available this year. You might check with them to see if they have anything for outboards or something that might work.

Arklier,

I think you are onto something here! Lojack may be just what is needed in the Puget Sound area. Maybe we all can get together, pool our resources, and catch some thieves!!!

I'm going to research this a bit, see how much the Lojack unit might cost, talk to a police detective I know, and see if there is any way this might work.

A kicker sting operation funded by fishermen! Anyone else think this is a good idea?

That lojack unit sounds pretty cool, but get this. 1 week after my kicker motor was stolen. My buddy down in Longview who I bought the motor from received a phone call from a boat dealer in Auburn. The guy in Auburn said some "crack-head" looking guy was in his shop trying to sell this Merc 4-stroke 9.9. He ran the serial numbers and got my buddies phone number and called him asking if his motor had been stolen. He in turn called me and asked if my motor had been stolen. Since that phone call I had been in touch with Olympic boats (where my boat was when the motor was stolen) and they had been working with the local detectives. In a 1 month period, that "crack-head" had been to 4 dealers in the Puget Sound area trying to sell that motor.
Now you tell me, what the &$#* is going on! Why was this theif never caught! The police department never even called me about this. I've talked to Olympic Boats several times and after a month, the detective never got back with them about this. It's been a year now, and like my earlier post says, my insurance company took care of me...but somewhere out there is a 2000 Mercury 9.9 4-stroke motor with a broken clamp.

Bob, the 'big one' .... Will you bring (take) this thread back to the top?

DD -- I think as an individual you were fighting red tape, apathy and city hall. But an organization ie. Sky Valley Sportsmen, Puget Sound Anglers etc. might have more political push or shove and get the attention of someone on top!!!

Arklier, please get more details on cost and adaptability if you can..

Don't let this die guys .......I too have been ripped off, last Dec., and it sucks.... beathead
