But turned out to be a 5# Humpy. Caught off of Redondo. Man, those humpies are scrappy little buggers. laugh

DR - I am not a big fish eater so I usually give my catch to friends and family. That 20# king I caught the other day I gave to a lady at my work and she cooked it off and brought the fish back to work and everyone had lunch. It was yummy.

Dangerous D - south Puget Sound gets a small run of Humpies. Humpies are more of a incidental catch while people are trying for coho.

Easy,

Is there any place in the South Sound that you could target humpies? I hear their run is normally on the odd numbered years, but have only caught one and like you, it was while I was targeting Coho.

Yeah the South Sound gets a small run... Too small to target as a fishery. Most head in to the Pew but a few in the Nasty.... (and I didn't say this... you never heard this!)

What they lack at the dinner table they more than make up for with their fighting style.

After a few hundred fish to the boat two years ago during the last major humpy run, fishing out of Sekiu, we could call the humpies before we saw them.

Silvers would rip and jump, sometimes moving ahead of the path of the boat while we still trolling at 2.5 mph, trying for doubles and triples.

Kings would headshake, rip line, and flat line on the surface. Sometimes they would sound after coming to the surface.

Humpies hit hard, sometimes made a run, but they almost always tried to stay as deep as they could, fighting for every foot of water between the boat and thenselves.

Great smokers, but the little *******s love to shed those tiny scales.

Nice fish!

Redondo is a good spot if you want to target humpies in the south Sound. Two years ago we caught and released quit a few fishing for coho.

That sounds like a lot of fun catching those guys. I used to live in Adak, Alaska many years ago and the two types of salmon runs were Sockeye and Humpies. Had to hike to the other side of the island to target the Sockeye, but on our side of the island the Humpies were plentiful and spent many a day catching em'. Hopefully there still around next week.

Easy, I'm fishing Redondo tomorrow morning. What's been the ticket? I've seen the photos you have been posting and can't wait. I live in Des Moines, but usually fish else where unless I only have a couple hours to fish.

My lucky charm has been a 4.0 all silver Coyote spoon trolled behind a white/glow Hot Spot 80' down in 90-100' of water. Start fishing as soon as you leave the launch and head south.
