As noted in "Conservation as the Catch of the Day for Trawlnets" (NY Times, http://www.nytimes.com/2003/07/29/science/29TRAW.html ), we have a centuries-old record of our concerns, observations, and comments regarding the damage inflicted upon our oceans (see, for example, http://thefishfinder.com/members/saltwater/ledbetter/ ). And one factor underlying our inability to adequately inact proper regulation is the arrogance and general narrow-mindedness of the academic and government fisheries managers and researchers, whose choice of projects (and project managers) often proceeds from the prejudice underlying their allegiance of petty and rather illiterate egos. As one Canadian Member of Parliament once told the Federal Fisheries Minister (of that time--early to mid-90s), "You guys really are abject [vile]!"
