I don't have a DR on my boat yet,and hate the drag a flasher creates when used with a diver. I saw the Fish Flashes at GI Joes and they claim to have minimal drag when trolled.

They cost as much as a big HotSpot flasher, but do they work as well?

The fish flash work great. They will not replace a flasher if you are going to use a lure that needs action, such as a hootchie, or GSB. I use them almost exclusivly with spoons and bait. They do have less drag than a flasher but will still require a good deal of wieght to get deep if you do not have a downrigger.

NEN cool

I know it's conventional wisdom that you need a dodger to provide action to a hoochie. But I've found using a fish flash and a bait chunk on the hoochie to give action works just fine.

Last time I went fishing with Spawnout he showed me how he makes his own, had about 15 of 'em that looked great, just like the store bought ones.

I have all the materials but havent sat down to do it yet, but looks super easy.

I purchased 2 of them and used them last week up in canada. They work great with a lure that has its own action. Less drag when pulling them in. Now the down fall was stacking my downriggers with 2 poles on each side using the fish flash on the top two poles. If you get the two lines together the fish flash will make the biggest twisted up mess you ever saw. Line cutting start over tangled up mess. I wouldnt hesitate to use them again but with only a single pole on each downrigger. I finally switched back over to using four flashers for the rest of the trip they can get tangled but never as bad as when that fish flash was involved. We also used a bait buster for the first time and I am impressed by the end of the trip the velcro wouldnt even hold together from all the fish it pulled in. I bet it had over 60 fish to the boat in 6 days and countless more lost after the strike. It works great with the fish flash.

i've fished the past 5 week ends out of westport w/ green EZ diver (the smaller of the 2 but MUST say EZ Diver on it & be the 4 oz model) & a green fish flash (looks like a triangle with one side green, the other disco, & has an eye on it at te narrow part of flash) & COHO cut herring (fresh, day old fresh, and frozen) and/or a an apex or 3.5 silver coyote when the bait ran out, limited (king over 20 & silver 10) every time...

up to last week end it was red in the am, green in the afternoon, apex & coyotes when the sun was out full, blue size @ 18 - 23 pulls fo kings, green size @ 8 - 18 pulls for silvers when cloudy or foggy ...

it's foolish to pull cut herring w/o a flash ...

I call 'em Tangle Flashes! Almost threw them all off the boat because of it, but as troller said, its just if you stack. They must swing a wider arc then hotspots etc.

I've been using the fish flash with a deep6 for 3 years . Advantages, choice of colors and sizes, spins on it's axis so less drag.
Disadvantages, given a chance it will twist everything near into a tangled mess.
I'll not be going to downriggers anytime soon so I purchased a Cabela's depth guage to attach to a diver, and a line counter reel. I now know exactly amount of line out and depth diver takes my gear.
When using a hoochie or squid without a cut plug herring you can get action by doing away with the swivel and attaching to the flasher with just a clip. Use heavy line and check often, this gives a great roll but will not work with light line.
IMHO this flasher out fishes all others.

Very popular in B-10 remove those stock snap/barrel swivles and replace with sampos and beadchains and you'll never have a problem with line twist.
