well I guess another newbie boat quest. Is this motor powerful enough to move a 20 foot sled and how efficient are these motors at different RPM levels. What are yall opinions on this motor. I would really appreciate any help or advice.

Moves our 20' predator quite well.
Ours has been trouble free, and performs well.
When we go fishing my wife sems to want to pack the whole house,so our boat is usually pretty heavily loaded. It still performs great.
If the battery isnt fully charged it can start a bit hard. And it smokes some at idle and low rpm but we are very happy with it.

They are very efficient motors for their weight. They are two stroke, so they might smoke a little depending on what oil you mix. They are not fuel efficient compared to V6 or V8 auto type engines.

A SJ should be fine until you have a loaded boat/heavy boat. In this case, you can't beat a V8, but if your boat isn't that heavy you may do just fine with a SJ.

I'd go for a test ride with your fishing partners (for weight) and decide if you like it or not.

I also have a 175 SJ and love it. It has an oil injection system with resevoir, you don't have to mix oil just keep the resevoir full. Moves my 19' Thunderjet very well.

19 ft North river. The Sportjet is great. It moves the boat and a load of people just fine. With 4 people, ice, gas, kicker, and gear, I get up on plane in about three boat lengths.

I don't get the best fuel efficiency. At higher rpms (4800-5000) I think I'm getting about 13-14 gph. I get about 42 mph out of the boat at 5000 rpm, so that gives me about 3 mpg. I think other folks are getting better than that, but I can live with what I get.

I couldn't be happier.

smile Buddie of mine bought a new 20' predator last year and opted for the sportjet. QUICK VERY QUICK! Its a little rattlie at the cover but nothing that cant be remedied with a little bit of effort tracking down the noisy spots.
