Been doing real well on the kings.
Got a 15lbr, 33lbr, 38lbr and a 43lbr hello
My buddies say I should change my 12lb test Maxima main line to 20, just in case I hook a REAL BIG King thumbs
I put the 33 and 43 in Bob's picture gallery. Can't figure out how to add it to my post confused

Still alot of soxs hanging in the tidal zone.
Some 11lbrs are being caught though wink
LOTS of 8lbrs! Still got sea lice!

More and more Dumpys showing up mad

They closed fishing for soxs Sunday night. Were thinking they'll open it up in a week like they did last year for another week. If they do there will be more fish than you can shake a rod at. laugh laugh

We're heading back up there this weekend to try for a 50lbr+++ thumbs

Won't be alot of people there because soxs are closed. Still lots of Kings!

Here you go!

Sounds like you're getting into them nicely G-man. I wasn't able to partake in the festivities this year. Maybe next year?

The kings will be running for a while yet. The size of fish has definetly improved over the last month, as has the king run. More and more whites will be in the mix over the next while, as the Vedder whites come in the fall.

Berkley, finding the river is more than easy enough, cross over to our side of the line and head for Chilliwack or Hope, and fish anywhere between. Any gas station will point ya to the river (ITS HUGE). You may want to try out grassy, ferry, spring Isl., spring bar, spaggetti bar as well as a list of others, just get a Fraser bar map from a sporting goods store and your in buisness.

Another warning: be careful where you park. Lots and lots of problems this year. I personally got my car window broken, door handle ^%$ up and maybe ten dollars of stuff taken. Two weeks ago I got all four tires slashed and ended up costing me $1,100 Canadian. It's nasty up there this year. I've heard same thing is happening at just about all the launches including Island 22.

This is off topic, but FishBreath, do you keep a boat at Westport by the same moniker?
That's a neat name for a boat!

Superstar snagging G-Man.

When the sockeye are closed you should pull out the bar rod and get them on spin and glo's (plunking) if you can.

Snagging and releasing a bunch of sockeye during a closure trying to get at the Springs is irresponsible and could lead to closures of the Fraser.

Guys like you make me believe that license increases are in order for out of province anglers. How many pounds of sockeye and spring are in your freezer - 200, 300?

And don't hold your breath waiting for another opening, it will be closed for till next year.

Berkleyboy75,

I'll keep you all posted if it opens up for soxs.

Lots of kings in there. It's easy to release the soxs and pinks because barbless hooks are mandatory. wink
If your comming up in Sept, shoot me an email first, I'll give you some good info. thumbs

Ollichan:

PLEASE stop assuming all unethical anglers are from the states. I fish up there LOTS. I have seen ugly nasty stuff done by anglers from both sides of the border. Most of the fools snagging chinook under the lower bridge on the Vedder are Canadians!

Once on the Thompson, I was with about five Canadian friends. One of the guys forgot his license and got a ticket. Later I heard, in the tavern,"One of the Americans got busted for no license." Truth is it was a Canadian.

I have many friends who camp on the gravel bars of the Fraser and who floss the sockeye and chinook. I am torn as to the ethics of this. On the one hand these fish do not bite and that mkes it iffy at best in my book. On the other hand the sockeye are abundant and will not bite. If DFO feels the flossers are harming the rescource they will close it. The flossers certainly do not do anywhere near the damage as one big net on the lower river.

"If DFO feels the flossers are harming the rescource they will close it. "

The problem with flossing when sockeye is closed for retention is that the DFO conciders it a non-selective method. They will close the fishing and that means closed for more selective methods such as bar fishing. Also the concern for catching and releasing sockeye is not the hook damage, it is the stress of playing them out in high river temps when they have many more miles to go before they reach the spawning grounds.

This notice was out before the sockeye season opened. I would guess something similar would happen now if DFO feels the flossing of sockeye is getting out of hand.

Fishery Notice

Category(s): RECREATIONAL - Salmon

Subject: FN0420-Salmon: Non-tidal Waters of Fraser River - Region 2 - Salmon Fishing Methods

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monitoring information collected by Fisheries and Oceans indicates
that numerous anglers are continuing to use fishing techniques which
are known to intercept sockeye salmon. Fishing for Sockeye salmon is
closed (including catch & release) to sport fishing due to extremely
low returns of Early Stuart sockeye.

Effective immediately, anglers using the bottom bouncing (flossing)
method are requested to stop using leader lengths greater than one
metre (3 ft).

Fisheries and Oceans will be monitoring the fishery for compliance
over the next 48 hours. If compliance is not forthcoming
immediately, then further measures will be taken. These measures
could include salmon closures or a complete salmon closure until a
sockeye salmon surplus is identified.

The objective of this action is to focus fishing effort on abundant
chinook stocks and minimize impacts on co-migrating sockeye.

This reflects a change to the BC Freshwater Salmon Supplement. The
online version of this guide will be updated within 24 hours of this
notice, please browse:

The problem must be extremely low sockeye numbers in the river? Must be why the commericals got to put in their nets again??? confused

I was up there all weekend and didn't see alot of sockeyes caught. Lots of Dumpys caught though. And some nice Kings.

Did see 1 sockeye bonked!!! frown And no, it was not an American. Want another guess? Saw several sockeyes pulled up on the beach then released. Need 2 guesses on this one?

Most, and yes, most Americans that fish up there know how to properly CNR. 99.9% of them have their own boat and use a net. If not, we all get on them for beaching a fish before identifying it. mad

We don't poach fish or fill our fish boxes full. They do check at the border. I've had my coolers and boxes in my boat checked many times. Alot of the border officers fish up there also and they know the REGS. Sometimes our DFO officers are checking incomming fish also!

I fished several times beside Ken, who works for DFO, and he fishes the SAME way as everyone else.

Matt, Ooilcan,
thinks Americans staying home is the answer. What he, and some others, don't relize is the millions of dollars every year we dump into their DFO just from fishing licenses. (BC Fisheries.com) I pay $137.00 Canadian every year! eek And how few fish we really take!!
Lets not consider all the money we spend every year up there on food, gas, lodging, tackle ECT, ECT.
1 day alone my buddy spent $134.00 at Fred's, on an anchor and another $214.00 at Canadian Tire on a BBQ!! I too, bought an anchor and loads of tackle at Fred's also. Ask Freddy if he would like to see all the Americans stay home. wink
This money, American money, goes to support Canadian businesses and families.

FJ? Ryan, Ect, How much money do you guys spend up there each sox season. Bet it's close to $1,000 just on that good Canadian beer alone! beer

FACT: If all Americans stopped going up there to fish they would have to cut their budget big time! Which means alot less enforcement officers and shut down some hatcheries.

If they don't get the extra funds from us, they'll get it from you, one way or another. They did it with the GST, remember?
The more money your DFO has, the better it is for your fishieries.

If you just want a fight, pick worthwhile one. Battle the commercials. They're the ones raping the runs before they get pass the mission bridge!!! mad
How much money do they put in your DFO?? How much do they put into your hatcheries?? How much do they spend at Hub Sports or Fred's every year?? ZIPPO NADDA ZERO

If you Canadians want to come down and fish here, COME ON!!
I'll tell you you where to launch, ect, ect.
Bring your MONEY!! Our fisheries could use the extra funds thumbs

Don't let a few canadians ruin some fun. I work in the sport fishing business here and by far and away the love for the fraser snaggin'/flossin' thing by all those that go out there is just amazing. I once thought that it was all about the experience and trying to catch a fish by making it bite, but when you see the sheer number of people that are so passionate about catching fish that don't bite it's unbelievable. The fishery has become a "non-native" food fishery and both our DFO department and the sport fishing community seem to think it is ok. Sport fishers are still killing sockeye and now DFO is thinking about closing the river to all salmon fishing becuse of the few that are still killing sockeye. There will always be those like ooilchan that think they own the river and are not thinking about sharing the resource for all to use. Hopefully all you guys on the otherside of the border will still come up here to enjoy the fishing we have to offer. If it's still open to killing salmon then I think it does not matter if you are black, white, canadian or american, some goverment offical thinks there are enough fish for all to enjoy, so get out there and enjoy.

rln,
I will always spend my money up there to fish.
I consider Canada just another state with colorful money laugh
The problem with Matt and the others is "Lack of Information" PERIOD!
If he's so against Americans and think we all should stay down here, why does he spend so much time on an AMERICAN FISHING BOARD????
Aparently he does'nt practice what he preaches???

rln, I'll see you when the Vedder's got it's share of BIG PIGS thumbs

And we'll continue to bring up our money$$$ wink
