Hit the Quil on Sunday. River is really low. It is also full of old chum. We walked down from the 101 bridge. We seen a couple of silvers here and there but not much to speak of. I think it will take a good rain or two to get the silvers moving into the upper river. We tried fishing with no luck. Used 10lbs main line and 6lbs leader. Used small red corky, yarn and just a small piece of roe. But no luck. May be another week or two. I heard that there are a lot of fish in the bay. There were a lot of people in all of the upper river holes. My advice is to stay local until there are enough fish in that river to make it worth the drive.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Dan,
Thanks for the info on selective regs. I was headed over as soon as I heard they were in... and I was planning on taking some eggs.
Now I know enough to leave them home.
thanks,
Bill W

No prob, Bill. I know the gamies are keeping an eye out over there and I'd hate to see someone get popped for unwittingly fishing bait.
Don't forget to pinch your barbs, too.

Dan, thanks for the info. I completely over looked the bait issue. We actually abandoned the eggs after about two casts and no hits. To much trouble and not enough fish.

Dan, you seem to know a little about the quil, what is your take on keeping non-clipped coho in that system. The Regs say 4 coho and doesn't specify futher into hatchery, wild, ect. thanks for the help.

Chances are they're mis-clips anyway. I don't think the Quil has any wild silvers to worry about at this time of year. Typically, wild Hood Canal silvers show up much later in the year......and by that time the Quil is closed.
The selective gear rules are in place to protect the summer chums that you'll tangle with while chasing silvers.
Goose probably knows more about the Quil. silvers than I do........he'll probably chime in if/when he reads this.

My lips are zipper on this one as far as whats happening. The hatchery marks only about 60% of the fish. What your seeing in the river now is a composite of about 5 different genetic stocks.
