Hi!
Anybody have an idea how much visibility in the Skagit today?
Ideally please mention where and when, since below the Sauk, above the Sauk, and below the Baker River all seem to be drastically different, at times.
Thanks!

I was up there for the weekend, and here's what I observed...
The Sauk below the Whitechuck is pretty milky, and is positively opaque below the Suiattle. Due to that, the Skagit below the Sauk runs from almost no visibility right at the mouth, to pretty milky all the at the freeway, probably 6 to 8 inches, or so.
The Skagit above the Sauk is pretty much gin clear, and there is a small stretch of fairly decent visibility below the Baker on the south side of the river.
The Skagit at Howard Miller was clear, but I still couldn't seem to see the bottom due to the zillion humpies up there...my back and shoulders still ache.
Fish on...
Todd

Hey Todd, I don't know which derby that 4-salt was talking about but the Sky Valley Chapter of TU is having its regular "low key" derby on Saturday, October 11th. You got 2nd and 3rd when we had to target chums a few years ago because fishing for coho was closed so why not give a go at a first place try on coho this year?. Info below:
2003 Sky Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited Fall Salmon Shootout
Our annual Fall Salmon Shootout will be held on Saturday, October 11th. We will be targeting coho again this year. Entry fee is $10.00 for adults. Kids 15 and under can register for free. This year’s contest is open to all, members or non-members. Everyone needs to register with Gary Bee prior to the day of the event. You can pay at the weigh-in or mail it to the Chapter PO Box, but I need to know who is competing by Friday October 10th. Rules are simple: target species is coho; your fish must be legally caught anywhere in the Snohomish River system which includes the Skykomish, Snoqualmie, etc.; if your fishing from a boat, everyone actively fishing in the boat needs to be registered. Prizes are $100.00 for the LARGEST FIN-CLIPPED coho; $50.00 for the largest overall coho, wild or hatchery; $25.00 for second largest. Winning sizes will be determined by weight. Remember the Sky Valley Chapter member with the largest coho gets his/her name on the Annual Fall Salmon Shootout Plaque. Last year it was the venerable Fred (Mr. Fish) Venables. Weigh-in will be from 3:30 - 4:00 PM at the Lewis Street boat launch on the Skykomish. Any questions, contact Gary Bee. 360-794-6378.

Fished above the Dalles this morning. Visibility has improved greatly, not the typical "chocolate milk" of the past month. The pinks are stacked in there like cord wood but most are getting fairly nasty. They did seem to have lock-jaw this morning and didn't see any silvers. Saw two fish caught on hot-pink jigs. Saw four deer and put the hurtin on a couple white fish so it wasn't a total bust .Anybody getting any ho's down low? TL/WN Camo

4Salt,
You wanna try it again this year? We didn't exactly slay 'em last year...but I guess no one really did.
Todd.

It's up to you Todd. Only thing is the date kinda conflicts with my first weekend on one of my favorite "northern" rivers.
