Anybody go razor clamming? We just got back from razor clamming. They were not showing very good Friday and Saturday. Only got half limits. So disapointing that we left early this evening. Just found out they were showing good tonight and mom and dad got their limits in half an hour. Go figure. My family was feel a little sick yesterday and me today. A little cold in the evenings and today. Got some oysters and steamers though both mornings. Crabbing sucked this afternoon. Anybody know about how to cook steamers? We let them sit in fresh water and cornmeal yesterday and put them drained the water and refrigerated them last night. Will they still be good to eat?

Some of the outfits that people wear out there is unreal... wish I had a digital camera to shoot a few photos of the people... Jeans so soaked with water that everytime they bent over water would squirt out of their butt crack... Hip boots spilling over with water. One guy had rain pants duct taped to his boots. He looked like he was wearing two water balloons around his ankles... all the duct tape did was hold the water in... I have never seen so many people in my life out for a razor clam dig. We managed to limit, but it was tough. You could barely turn around without bumping into someone. Clams were alot smaller than 2 years ago... Traffic getting off the beach would have made any seattlite proud... took us 30 minutes to go about a half a mile... But hey, it was fun. I'll bet the town of ocean shores saw a boost to the economy this weekend... I know they have a few hundred of my dollars...

My sister went to Ocean Shores Friday and got her limit in 45 min. Met her there with my wife and my folks Saturday night and dug my limit and my parents limit in about two hours. Before any one says anything they have handicap permits that allow some one to dig for them. These were big clams also.
MMMMMMMMMMMM good.

Went out Friday at Ocean Shores two hours before the tide and they were showing well, got my limit in about 45 minutes. Then they stopped showing and we had to stomp to get them to show and finish off my wife's limit. All mine were big and fat, but a few my wife got were 3 inchers. Sunset was incredible, and the eating this weekend was damn fine! Now I'll try to start an argument. Which is the clam gun, the tube or the shovel?

I was always told the tube was a clam gun.

Nothin like digging clams with 200,000 of your closest friends!! We hit Grayland beach just because of the traffic jam entering into Aberdeen. I took 3 boys that have never been before, we ended with about 30 total clams, they all got 4 or 5 each. They were definitely not showing well in Grayland Saturday. Razor Clam Gear = Barefoot, shorts, tank top, and hat. You never know when it might rain

Steelheadman, your steamers will die in fresh water. Then putting them in the frige will have some dead for up to two days. When you steam them the dead ones will not open, or will have opened in the fridge, so don't eat those to be safe. Next time before you leave the beach fill a couple buckets with as clear of salt water you can. Change the water a couple of times in the next two days with of without cornmeal and your steamers will be as clean as they get.

Although most people now call the tube a clam gun, it was invented in the 1950s and originally called the Sandpiper. The original clam gun was a garden shovel, the blade cut narrow and angled, the handle shortened, back in the 1930s. Somebody then started making and selling it as, I believe, the Westport clam gun. Nowadays a good one is hard to find in stores. They don't make them like they used to. The models available today are a pitiful excuse for the guns you used to be able to buy.

The steamers were excellent last night. They cured my illness. They opened up and were fixed with onion and garlic. Yum Yum! My wife is fixing some oysters and razor clams now.
