Thanks to Peter from Nautimatic for demonstrating the new TR-1 Gold autopilot at the PSA meeting Tuesday evening. Pete installed a new unit on a member's SeaSport just before the meeting and gave us an on the water demo. What a cool device to control the kicker motor. The best part was the remote control set to come on the market in January. The remote is the size of the remote on your keychain for your car door locks. Hang it around your neck and sit back and steer the boat "hands free". Thanks Pete for the demo and congratulations on the 42# King.

MY boat was still in the water on Wednesday after the "on the water" display at the PSA meeting. So before pulling the boat, I decided to do a little testing of the TR1. A weather front was moving in, and we had a stiff breeze. And it was raining pretty good. JR was in the neighborhood, so he joined me for about 1 hour of trolling. To test the unit, we headed into the wind and whitecaps to see if it would hold course. It performed beautifully.

We were targeting coho in the middle of the sound in 700' of water with the d'riggers down 100'. JR's rod went off and it turned out to be a blackmouth. What he was doing out there I don't know. Maybe a good omen for the upcoming blackmouth season?
