Pardon my complete ignorance here but I'm really new to some of this. After much deliberation we decided to go with electric downriggers. So I bought a pair of nice used Cannon Mag 10's (thanks PillBoy!). Problem is I have zero idea how to connect them. Is there some sort of universal connector that you hook up to your battery or do I need to buy specific Cannon plugs? I searched around but didn't find anything on the Cannon web site.

Thanks!

Red to + side of battery
Black to - side of battery

And fuse them to Factory spec's!!!!!!!!!!
and mount them"fUSES" where you can get to them quick! if you hang up, so you can replace and get unsnagged if AT ALL POSSIBLE.

can be scary if your fishing tight to the rocks and hang up and lose power! been there done that, Highly recommenrd stepping up to automatic resetting breakers, in the correct trip rating.

go online to cannon also probably some tips there, and fuse sizes for models.

Bud.

cannon dealer will have plugs. I also keep a set of cutters real close incase I have to cut a wire in a hurry, also handy if you loose a rigger ball and need to truim the end of the cable before putting on a new swivel.

LOL...I had to chuckle when I read "Red to + side of battery, Black to - side". I realized that much, just not sure about the connectors themselves. smile

If you use the clutch to lower the ball and then tighten it just enough to stop it where you want it, if it hangs up the wire will start spooling off. I keep 400' on mine, so that I have room to turn around and make my way back. Usually it seems to hang in the rocks and if you can get back and pull the other direction it will come loose. I haven't lost a ball yet! As far as connecting it, just get some large ring terminals to connect to the battery. You don't have red and black, you have a zip style chord where one is smooth the other is ribbed. Can't remember which is which, but if you hook it up and the spool runs backwards, just reverse the wires. Easy!!

Outdoor Emporium has the battery lead with 2 side-by-side female sockets. There about $20. Put some electric grease (or something) in them, 'cause they tend to corrode pretty fast...
