I have seen pontoon boats out in front of hoodsport hatchery on more than one occasion. Have any of the board members actually tried this? I have an 8' pontoon and I am wondering as to how it would handle in some of the bays.

Hey fish-seeker, I have a pontoon also. I would guess that if it works on a river it should also work quite well on the salt. Especially the estuary, bay or near shore environment. There are quite a few guys who fish at Eglon, Hood Canal and other places with them. I would think that having a drag bucket would be handy when a big'n is on would be of some help. Just wash it in fresh water right away and watch for corrosion at the adjustment holes for your foot rests, and oil up the metal.
Let er rip.

i use to take my pontoon out at dolphin point on vashon, shilshole anywhere and sometimes out at three tree point.
wind can suck at times cuz they are so light. wash it down after you use it. they take big wake fine and they float so its not going to sink on you.

I ALLWAYS WEAR A PFD though and that is probably the most important thing. you will never get in to shore wearing waders if you flip and have no pfd
