As I mentioned previously, I have nominated Grandpa for this Advisory Group. The Press Release that was referenced earlier did not give a lot of information. I spoke to Pat Pattillo of WDFW and he provided more detailed information. Here's the G2.

REQUEST FOR NOMINATIONS
Anadromous and Marine Resources Sport Fishing
Advisory Group

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is accepting nominations through December 5, 2003, for membership on the Anadromous and Marine Resources Sport Fishing Advisory Group.

Purpose:
The purpose of the Anadromous and Marine Resources Sport Fishing Advisory Group is to advise the Department on issues affecting recreational fisheries and essential habitat for salmon and marine fish species.

Meetings:
Up to 20 individuals will be chosen to serve as advisors for the 2004 calendar year. Currently serving advisors may be reappointed. The advisors meet as a group three or four times a year, and attend public meetings held as part of the North of Falcon season planning process. In addition, other meetings and conference calls with selected advisors may be required to address regional issues. The Department budget constraints require advisors to be responsible for their own travel expenses.

Expectations of Advisory Group Members:
Expectations for an advisor include meaningful participation in the North of Falcon preseason planning process and attendance at scheduled meetings of the Advisory Group. Meaningful participation in the North of Falcon meetings requires that advisors be informed on fishing and resource management issues. Attendance at every meeting is encouraged but not required. The Department expects the advisors to provide objective assessments about the nature and conduct of fisheries, based on experience and first hand knowledge. With the aid of Department staff biologists, advisors will be called upon to recommend how fisheries can be shaped to optimally meet conservation needs of various stocks and harvest objectives. In addition, advisors shall act as communication links between the Department and members of the sport fishing communities in their areas, transmitting key information. For example, the Department expects advisors to communicate regularly with local constituents about the context and reasons for various policy and fishery decisions.

Interactions with Other Advisory Groups:
To address regional or statewide fishery issues across species, the Department may intermittently hold joint meetings with the Anadromous and Marine Resources Sport Fishing Advisory Group and other Department advisory groups. For instance, the Department may schedule periodic meetings of sport fishing advisors with commercial advisors and industry representatives in the different fishing sectors.

Submitting Nominations:
Any group or individual may submit nominations. Advisors will be chosen based on their experience in the fisheries, willingness to engage in the management process, and their ability to communicate with fishery managers and other recreational and commercial fishers or organizations. Nominees do not need to be affiliated with an organized group. Nominations must be accompanied by a resume of the nominee, including the following information:

1. Name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address (if applicable) of nominee.

2. Experience (specify the amount and kind of experience including species and areas of interest); reason(s) for interest in being an advisor.

3. Description of how communications will occur with regional constituents to relay information from the management process and assist productive communication with the Department.

4. Name, address, and telephone number of individual or organization submitting nomination.

All nominations can be submitted to me by mail at the above address or by fax at 360-902-2158. Nominations must be received no later than December 5, 2003. For more information, please contact me directly at 360-902-2705. Appointees will be notified by January 2, 2004.

Sincerely,

Pat Pattillo

The #3 question was a bit hard for me to understand so I questioned Pat on what it meant. He said that this goes to how the member of the advisory group will tell other anglers and interested parties about what's going on with the Advisory group. Hope this helps.
