BrassonBrass,
I haven't found that to be true either. I have never had a problem inducing strikes no matter which species' eggs I use or what egg cure I use.I've never used any of those on my eggs exept the occasional dose of Anise of squirt of WD-40 on yarn, but I have used jello gelitan and borax together quite a bit on my eggs with some success, but I usually use just plain borax. As far as my opinion on what eggs
work best for steelhead, well, here it goes!
Well, in my opinion and some of my river buddies' opinion's, salmon eggs work the best on steelies(especially hatchery brats). This is because winter steelhead follow our fall silvers and kings and enter a river full of eggs from these fish. Therefore, on their journey upstream, these fish are constantly picking up foreign eggs along with other tresspassing objects and moving them out of their territory. This happens more and more as steelhead get closer to spawning. When natives come around, I tend to shy away from eggs and fish shrimp as my bait of choice, but I often don't use bait at all on natives instead of bait, try scents as often as possible, I just started using scents a couple years ago, but now I swear by it. Hope I was able to help a little! Good luck BrassonBrass!
