I'm sure its been tied before but I came up with it on my own...does it have a name?

How come all the tag ends are on the left?

Most fishers I know use it. I've heard it called "double cinch" or "river's inlet."

We call it "Monster Knot"
Simple to tie. Double line through eye. 4 wraps and back through above eye. Trim tag ends.

Why 'knot" just use a palomar? Seems a lot simpler..

Does the palomar knot work with mono? I've only used the palomar knot with braided lines.

I pretty much only use the rivers inlet knot on hardware/plugs, as shown above. Works great for heavier lines.

For bait leaders, on lighter lines (less than 15 lbs) I use the improved clinch. I used this knot all summer on a bazillion leaders and never broke one at the knot.

I think I'm with slabquest on this one. I'm just back from a trip fishing peacock bass. We drug some bigguns out of the brush and never had a knot failure. Palomar was all we used.

Hohwaiian is right - Herzog's book has it listed as the "River's Inlet" knot. We use it as our mainline knot.

The palomar knot works fine on mono. If you tie your jigs on with the palomar knot, they tend to ride horizontally instead of having the knot work it's way to the front of the eye making your jig hang vertically.

I use a knot that looks just like that as my mainline knot. I make a loop at the end of my mainline, pass the loop through the eye of the swivel and then make a standard cinch knot. I've always called it the "Rivers Inlet" knot from Herzog's book.

I fished with a guide this fall who used this same knot to tie braided line to a spinner. It didn't seem to slip at all and we caught several silvers and hooked a nice king with this setup. I always thought that a knot like this would slip when tied with braid and a palomar knot would work with braid better. Personally, I think the palomar knot is a pain in the a** and would rather use the "Rivers Inlet" knot.

Palomar just sounds too fancy pants for me...

How much easier could it be to tie than this one? If it is that much easier what's the 'Palomar's' advantage over whatever the one i posted is called?

The palomar is, IMHO the easiest knot in the world to tie, and it tests at nearly 100%. What more could you ask?

But. .. I do tie the improved clinch most of the time cuz I have been tying it since before they invented mono- just after dirt was invented.

Sometimes I get lazy and tie the unimproved clinch. I usually quit that for a few months when the knot comes unraveled on a big fish

Don't worry about what Herzogs book calls your knot. I know he only uses a square knot, unless he''s in a hurry then its a granny.

I don't care for all those tag ends on the rivers inlet knot.

I was thinking something more like 'The Rugged Outdoorsman" or "The Testosterone"...

The only knot that test outs at 100%. The only knot to use IMO.

palomar kicks butt.....simple and strong....

Improved clinch knot for me never had any problems with it. Palomar looks like it would be a pain in the arse if you were tying it to a swivel that already had a leader attached to it but thats just looking at a illustration as I have never tied it.

This is my personal "preferred Knot"

There are very few that use this self developed knot. Both I and a friend of mine kind of think that we both developed it about 30 years ago! You won't see it anywhere that I know of…but you will see one that is very similar to it. I had a lot of fun over the years at the sport shows playing mind games with all the line reps with this knot. I have never seen a knot that tests out any stronger at the breaking scales!

It's a simple one to use (most of the time). I call it the "double improved clinch knot"! It is exactly what it is named. Just Double your line and make a complete "clinch not" (http://camalott.com/~striper/bait/knots/knots.html). The trick is not to cut your self sort on the small end of your knot and I always add a "little spit" to my knot so that it will not rub to hard when you pull it tight! The same knots works really well with all those new spider type of woven lines.

It is the "only knot" that I have used for tying my jigs and swivels for the past 30 years! It works great on monofilaments line up to 60 lb test.

Scrambling eggs won't help to get rid of those unsightly tag ends, but here's a trick that will.

Tie the "Rivers Inlet" knot just as described: With the last six inches of your mainline doubled over in a loop, tie a regular old unimproved clinch knot with only 3 or 4 turns....but before cinching it up, pass the swivel/ snap/ hook back thru the tag loop, just like with a Palomar knot.

Don't cinch it up just yet... this is the most important step: Cheat the loop back up into the spiraled portion of the knot by pulling on the last turn placed to make the spiral. The loop should be flush with the body of the knot, right next to the swivel/snap/hook.

Now it's safe to cinch it down by pulling EVENLY on both the cut tag and standing mainline together... just like you would do for a Palomar. The coils will stack up very nice and even, and the loop just gets camouflaged into the stack of coils flush against the swivel/snap/hook.... and there is only one tag end to cut!

Like the Palomar, this knot is not practical to tie directly to a large lure or to a pre-rigged leader.

Here is one I just tied on a magnum snap with 30# Ande.... only so it would be big enough for my scanner to pick up the details of the knot. Try it. You will be impressed. This knot will NEVER slip (even with the slickest of braids) because the loop locks it in place. It is my knot of choice when tying a terminal snap to braided mainline.
