Well hit the water this morning fishing for blackmouth with DR in area 13. First fish on was a shaker (and a silver if you can believe it).Next fish DR was bringing up was so close to being a keeper it was sad (maybe 2 more days and it would have been good to go mad ). After trolling for a little while thought about giving up for the day (both of us on a time limit) decided to call it quits DR puts the boat in nuetral I start pulling up my gear and wham FISH ON! Great day on the water had lots of fun. If DR offers to take you out take him up on the offer learned alot from him today. Thanks again DR!

Congratulations on a great fish! Now you'll have/get to change your user name! Keep it up.

Hope you guys down south appreciate those December salmon! As a native of area 8's and 9, I'm envious.

Hope you soaked up everything you saw today from Mr. DR. I have learned a lot hanging around here and reading his posts!

Thanks Downriggen, and I'm looking forward to your "Great American Novel" on fishing. Maybe you can sell us a hard copy just printed out in MS Word - eh?

Jeff D. - Mr Bush Pt.!
Have you tried for steelhead in your neck of the woods off the beach yet this year? Heard last weekend was good @ the usuall area 9 beach sopts. I've been intrigued with this fishery for years. Have not had the pleasure to wet a line up there though. you heard any new reports? How about a rig and technique?
take it easy -
To look forward: blackmouth re-opens in area 10 in a few days! Good news.

Lofty,
I am certainly no expert at the Whidbey Steelhead fishery, but I am building my log hours up, so hope to catch one this season.

The setup is a mooching leader with red hooks, a few red beads, a orange or red hootchie, bead and then a red, orange or charturse(green right?) spin n glow.

I'll post a picture soon on a new thread.

John's Sportingoods on Broadway in Everett sell this rig pretied if you are interested. Also, The whidbey fishing club is holding a seminar Thursday night at Holmes Harbor R&G club in Langley - 7 PM on Steelhead fishing from the beach.

I will certainly post a picture if I catch one this season, as I have never put in more hours for a fish.
You are correct - There have been some decent numbers so far this year, but I don't think last weekend was included in those counts. I didn't see any on Sunday at either Bush or Lagoon Point.

Are the lessons at the club open to the public and do you have directions?

ST,

I would recommend joining a chapter of PSA in your neighborhood. There is a ton of insight to be gained from the many great fishermen at any chapter.

Grandpa2's chapter is just down the road from you..

If you're up to a drive down south, I can get you on water sometime. My schedule is pretty full for the next couple of months, but I am sure by mid Jan we can find some time

Starcraft Tom,
If you are referring to the Whidbey PSA meeting, yes, it's open to the public and is free.

After you get off the Clinton Ferry, follow the highway North to Bayview Road (After the second Red Apple Grocery Store). Turn Right at Baview (there is a stoplight at Bayview) and travel about 2.5 miles until you see the sign for the Holmes Harbor Rod and Gun club on your right.

I'll look for you there,
Jeff
