Hey fella's-
I just picked up a japan version of the chronarch super free off E-bay. Does anyone out there have one of these? And how would you rate it to the american version. Also where would a guy get this reel serviced if need be.
Thanks in advance.

Chrome , The Scorpion is the Japanese version of the Curado. Unless you got the Scorpion Quickfire, which is the Chronoarch.

The Scorpion I have is the Curado version with the Whiffle spool . This reels is light and can cast just a hook (almost). It has no plastic parts and and the gear and drag are set up much like the Calais. I have opened up both of my Calais and the Scorpion and the gear on the Scorpion is much better. It is smooth as the Calais with a better drag and brakes system.

The plastic brakes that they supply you with will not work with american reels.

I have used my Scorpion 1001 to land kings (not my reel of choice for kings but...)and had no problems with the drag, or the salt water,(rinse well after use).

My opinion is that the Scorpion is comparable to the Calais (American version). It has the same click positive handle with tension and the side plate is spring loaded like the Calais and not like the Curado, which is 2 piece and uses plastic parts.

I have had this reel for over a year and no problem.

You can get it serviced directly from Shimano America. You can also send it to Japantackle but they will charge a lot .

Rich, the non whiffle spool ones are equivlent to the 200/201 Curado. same gearing as the smaller 1000/1001 scorpions, but the casing is a lot like the American Curado. These reels are the same price is the American Curados.
I found mine on ebay, but you can get them from Japantackle. I believe you can get them for cheaper on ebay then from these guys. I paid $125 plus shipping and it took 3 days(he said he ships from Japan, but mine came from SanFransisco). Any way, I have bought several reels from him and had no problems.

You can check here for the specs and other reels thengoto ebay and save a few bucks.
