I have recently recieved an Okuma Meteloid spinning reel for Christmas, and so far it has performed perfectly. I even had a chance to test the drag on a 6lb. hatchery steelhead. has anybody else used this reel? How did it perform for you?

Thanks!

I don't know Paranoid, a wife sounds kinda high for a Okuma Metaloid. Must have really been some rod you got with it.

I sell Okuma reels and have used the Metaliod along with the Epixor. They are very good reels for the money. The only thing I do not like about them is that when the bail is open and you turn the handle after a cast to close it they are a little "stiff". This is I believe because these reels along with the Epixor model have a mechanism that keeps the bail from slamming closed during a cast. I really put my Epixor EFS 30 to the test this year by catching over fourty kings with it and it did the job great. The drags are larger than most other spinning reels and work really well. Oh, you will find that the shiny coating on your Metaliod will wear off rather fast but it will not hurt the performance. Tight lines to all.

I have pounded a n avenger and my only complaint would be in the ergonomics. When setting up to cast the line likes to hang up on the bail.I thought it was just mine untill I fished one of foggedins.Tough reels though.

I use the Inspira model for float fishing both in the salt and fresh. Great reel!!
Yeah the bail is a bit stiff when you crank the handle, but I keep the bail open as I drift and feather out the line. I usually just close the bail with my feathering hand. Smooooth drag!!!

I have a couple of Okuma spinning reels, two Avengers and I'm looking for a Epixor I can use for my surfcasting Ugly Stik. They are great reels for the price. By far the best bang for the buck you'll get on any reel period.

I just wish they made a lighter reel with the line capacity I want. I got a light spinning rod for Christmas and my Shimano Symetre 4000 is too heavy for it. I'd always heard nothing but positive things about Okuma so I looked at them, but they're all too heavy or don't hold enough line. Ended up deciding on a Shimano Symetre 2500.

Weight of the reel has rarely been an issue for me. The only time I ever get tired is when I'm casting Buzz Bombs or bait off the saltwater peirs for salmon, where a cast will come every 2-3 minutes for hours on end.

I use to be a die hard Shimano fan having the Stradic reel. Last year I purchased an Epixor and Inspira models and they are great, They have 10 ball bearings which makes for a smooth drag.

No doubt, they are a great reel......but just toooo heavy.

Have the Okuma Epixor EFS30, high speed, 10 Ball bearings.

Into light lines, light rods, and light reels-----Have the original box, paper work, extra spoon......Make me an offer I can't refuse......and its yours.

hello I'll stay with the Shimano Symetre and Spirex.

It's not an issue of getting tired, it's an issue of rod balance. My 14 oz reel just throws it off balance to the point of decreased sensativity. The Okuma Metaloid with the line capacity I want weighs over 12 ounces whereas the Shimano Symetre 2500 holds almost the same amount of line and weighs only 9 ounces.
