As always, I'm here to add a little brightness to your other wise dull and unexciting day today! smile

Ever catch that one fish, where you take a photo of it, release it, look back on that photo, and say to yourself, "Wow. I wonder how big that snakey hen would have been?"

I've got such a photo. Here's the photo and fish in question.

If this fish were fresh, how big do you think it would have been?

As a way of comparison, here's another freshy hen I got on that same day. On average, I'd say fish like this is somewhere in the 12-14 pound range

The next two photos are of some hens on a different day.

This next hatchery freshy was 18 pounds, on the nose, on the scale.

Here's another "average" hen. Somewhere in that 12-14poundish range.

Well? Doesn't that first fish look really long to you? I've always wondered how big that snake would have been as a "freshy"?

I doubt that fish was a 20-and-over-trophy hen, but I bet it would have been close. What sayeth you all?

OK, he who has no first name, here it goes:

Qualifier, assuming you resisted your ample computer skills, and stayed away from Adobe on your pics......

There have been significant scientific studies that show that when the "doe" steelhead, and some species of spiny rays, go through their wild eye, mouth agape, quiver during...... well you know.... have no ability to pass anything through their "vent" other then their spawn. It's obvious from your pic that the lady in question loves hard boiled eggs (reference the "bus wreck" on the back of the boat). Obviously she has been feeding on way, way, way too may hard boiled eggs resulting and an over-abundance of "internal combustion". Studies have proven that when hens like this do the dirty.... well you know.... spasm so hard that the gas, seeing how the only reasonable escape hatch is blocked and the other end is singing, concentrates in pockets along the backbone resulting in a significant although temporary lengthening of the fish. This should have been obvious to you from the smell of stale beer, eggs, tobacco, pork rinds etc., emulating from her lateral line. Another obvious indicator that you were fishing in "that" kind of area would have been the buck steelhead with the mullet hair-cut and 24 inch wallet chain that someone in your boat should have caught immediately after you released this kelt. After releasing the buck there should have been a concial dent in the side of your tin boat (don't worry, the wild buck will be fine). OBTW, we're you fishing on the Carbon River? There's lots of hens up there like that.

For bibliography on related studies please contact the Texas Department of Fish and Game.

Beezer: huh

Parker: I'd say it weighted 16-17 pounds.

hehehe...yup...a hoot about a boot....
Parker....that snake would have been (past tense) a beauty, but in the condition pictured is just an old white meated, egg eating, snag that no doubt will get heavier and heavier as time passes....so start wherever you like...16, 18, 20 even.....by the time you are 60 that snake would have been a new state record rolleyes
just kiddin...my guess....18 beer
