So...a fella named Brad from I-Fish is fishing on the E.Fk. Lewis and witnesses a guy with snagging gear snag/bonk/run to car with a wild steelhead.

He follows him up to the parking lot to get info on the guy, but alas, no cell coverage.

Whips out camera, takes close up of guy's face and of his car and license plates, and posts them on the internet after calling the gamies.

That is what I call policing ourselves!

Here's the story, with the pics.

Snagger Photos!

Word on the street is that this guy is a known snagger, who has been reported before, but nothing has come of it yet. I hope it does this time.

Penalties? My opinion...

1. Intentionally snagging: revoke license, take gear, one year suspension from holding any DFW licenses.

2. Bonking illegally snagged fish: Same as above, with much longer suspension...

3. Illegally snagged fish is a wild steelhead that is from a very depressed run: Big fines, plus lifetime suspension.

Check out the story...it's good.

Fish on...

Todd.

P.S. I'm still looking for folks to fill up the rest of my van for drive to Oly tomorrow to attend Col. R. fish kill...uh, I mean, commercial fishery bycatch...hearing.

I would love to hear that this guy was "snagged" by one of our own!

Way to go!

Well I am most certainly not going to defend this bozo, as his behavior should be dealt with harshly.... BUT..... I wish I could see even 1/2 this type of disgust/conversation/action over one illegally caught/retained native fish when the tribal fishing that kills hundreds and thousands of native fish happens. A little grumbling, some comments, and then a lot of "they are just exercising their rights" and it goes away. I cannot even count how many times I have witnessed illegally caught "tribal" fish, nets with dead rotting carcasses in them, nets in closed waters, and complaints from me always gets the same "ho-hum" response from authorities and fellow fisherman alike.
Maybe more change would occur if we would unite against tribal wrongs as well as we do against non-tribal fishing wrongs......

I saw that on ifish also. Got the guys face memorized. If I see the dude, I'll at least let him know that he is a wanted man. I say we gig him in the butt, drag him up the bank, give him a hickory headache and put him in the trunk of our cars (or in the wheel well under the truck for those who drive trucks like me) and not tag him! Then he'll know what that nat' feels like!

ps that look is priceless

The way I see it you are either part of the solution or you are part of the problem. The guy who posted the original thread chose to be part of the solution. I am wholly aware that it can be dangerous or impossible at times, but, if you sit there and watch somebody blatantly break the rules then you are part of the problem. I don’t think that you always have to get in a guys face about it, just let him know you are aware of his poaching.

looks like a yuppie snagger. You can find this breed among others at the hatchery hole on the Duc when the silvers are thick.
