going to forks to bank fish, this coming weekend. new to the board 30 years steelhead fishing. usaully fish the rivers in snohomish county, only been to forks once to fish. Ive read on the board to just drive the river roads and do some walking to find the holes. can anybody tell me which roads would be the best bets to try, and how far up them I should go before Im just wasting my time. thanks a bunch fellow steelheaders!

Go as far as you want fish will be scattered throughout farther than the roads go. Be shure you have a rule book with you and be reading for the Sol Duc and upper Hoh. Part of the Hoh is Fly Fishing Only and the Sol Duc is closed above bridge west of Kalohoa Olympic National Forest Service Park on 101. I think thats the park anyways.

If you plan on fishing the Hoh at all you can go up the rain forest road off of 101. There should be a sign that reads "Olympic National Rain Forest" or something close to that.

That road runs along the river for quite a ways, there's several access points.

There's also some good access around the lower Hoh store.

It's been too long since I've fished to Bogy or Soleduck to give any good directions there.

I'm thinking about coming up around Presidents day, I'd like to hear how you do.

Both the Bogie and Clawah have lots of access up above. The upper Clawah has the most road access and the bogie only goes up so far and then you have to walk. Little early for either to have any good numbers of wild fish yet, but there will be a few and less people than the Hoh or Duc.

Lower Bogachiel still has the majority of the fish right now...If you don't mind people, drive down to the "Snag Hole", usually full of both people and fish. If you're trying to avoid crowds then do like Rich suggested and hit the upper stretches of river. Avoid the Hoh right now, not very good reports coming from there. There are some big fish being caught in the Sol Duc right now but you have to work for them.
