Double Haul, Most hatchery runs have slowed down by March and many coastal rivers close to steelhead fishing March 31.

Springers have not arrived in numbers so guides and people with enough time and money follow the fishing.

Have driven thru the OP on my way to Seiku and Neah Bay, steelhead fishing there is on my list of things to do. When time and money allows.

Big steelhead (althoug if you know your sheot you can do just fine on them here). People in Northern Or, go just Hog wild for springers so all lf the pressure when the big nates are around is gone..

It seems to be cyclic. Some years, the rivers in Oregon do great. Other years, Washington rivers do great. It seems that the salmon fishing in Washington is considerably better. As others have noticed, it's also interesting to see the Oly. Pen. rivers do well this year, and watch the northern Wa. rivers close due to poor returns.

As for prices, it looks like the cost for an Oregonian purchasing a WA fishing season license is the same as a Washingtonian purchasing a Oregon tag.

All in all, I think it is a case of the "Grass is always Greener".

About the question about Oregon guides and fishers showing up on the Oly pen in March and April...

... Could it have anything to do with the fact that it represents the only place around to retain wild fish...???
