I was suprised last month to see the water in which the chummies were making love. My thoughts were that the redds would be high and dry as soon as the rains subsided.

And they were:



The spawners gave up their lives for the survival of the species:




and when the water receeded some were left behind.



But never fear , thousand were not affected

There is usually nearly as much sub surface water moving thru the gravel as is moving in the stream. Those chum eggs are probably just fine in the gravel.

So maybe I should start a poll :

Do smolts that have been left without running surface water:

1. Grow legs and hike downstream?

2. Grow mole like appendages and tunnel downstream?

C. Lay low and pray for rain?

4. Lay low and become nutrients?
