Hows the fishing in the Skykomish? I may be getting a job in Wenatchee and I noticed the sky is about the closet river for steelies on the west side! Is there any other rivers that are close to Wenatchee that are decent for salmon and steelies?? I live in Yakima and its fairly close to the Klick,Wind, Drano, Deschutes,
so I'm having doubts about this job since there doesnt seem to be many choices for my favorite pasttime!! thanks for any help with this delima!!!! steelymann

The Skykomish has a decent summer run from July through October and a good hatchery run of brats in December and early January. The wild fish are making a comeback but fishing is usually closed down by late February if not earlier when runs are down. The Methow is a small river about 45 miles north of Wenatchee and has a summer run that is rebounding (couple thousand fish caught this fall) and can provide good action in September and October. The Wenatchee river also has good summer-run steelhead numbers however it is primarily catch and release. All rivers mentioned are wild steelhead release.

With all the spring chinook that are supposed to return this year, the Icicle River in Leavenworth should be very good. Just don't expect solitude there.

Unfortunately Steelyman, the Sky doesn't offer anywhere near the kind of fishing that the Klick, Drano, and the Wind do. frown

That's not to say that it totally sucks, but you can get pretty spoiled hookin' double digit summer runs at Drano, Tons of springers at the Wind, and the Klickitat canyon is about as pretty as it gets. smile

R. Ridgeway. I don't know where you got your info on the Wenatchee as a catch and release fishery on steelhead. It is closed for those fish and only open from Dec to Mar for Whitefish only. And only using a single hook size 14 or smaller. And thats only from the mouth to Leavenworth.

Thank you

Jim
