My brother and I fished Area 8-1 today.

Launched at Camano Island State Park ran over to East Point on Whidbey Island, lines in the water at 8:30am. My brother gets a good fish on at 8:40, then his leader breaks, lost the fish. We troll between East Point and Baby Island for the next couple of hours with only a couple of shakers caught.

Next we go over to North Bluff, Pratts Bluff and Greenbank and soon my brother gets another good fish on, then hook comes loose. The 2nd lost fish for him. A little while later its my turn, my brother sees my line release from the downrigger. I grab my rod and reel up the slack as fast as I can but there is nothing there. My main line broke, it must have had a nick or fray in it, I lost one of my favorite flasher and spoon setup. I don't know if there was a fish on or not.

By now we are wondering if we will ever get a fish in the boat. Then at about 1:00pm I get a good fish on.

We finally get a fish in the boat, a 7 pound blackmouth.

We quit around 2pm and went back in to the launch. It was a good day, raining on and off but calm water all morning.

We were there last Nov but we did not get any 15 pounders. We did get a 10 and a 8, we were happy with that.

I think I'll go back next weekend and look for those 15 pounders.

We were out near Greenbank Sunday but didn't find any fish. Did see sea lions, seals, Dall Pourpos and a bald eagle though.

Landed one 5" squid when we switched over to jigging.

This was my first time fishing around greenbank. We were in a small aluminum boat and will likely not venture out to the point, or even over to Baby island. So, is it productive fishing near Greenbank? If so, are there any landmarks we should watch for, or fish around?

Any area 8-1 help would be appreciated.

Jeff

smile Green bank can be very productive. Start just off the big house with the flag and work the contours between 90' and 150' towards the point. thumbs But dont tell anyone laugh
