Maybe the people that negociate with the tribes for fish and game allocations when and where and how much should be an elected possition voted on only by fish and game license holders.

WDFW would be advisors.

Maybe this is the only way we as sport fishers can get a fare shake.

i mentioned something about this in another thread, we need to get a intiative to make this happen, and also to get a intitative to get all the license money, what ever is spent on fishing related stuff, should go into a general fishing fund ONLY! worded correctly and this could be effective in a voting poll..

The WDFW budget is available on line. If you look at it carefully you will see that total expenditures are significantly more than total license sales.

I have been hearing this cry to get out license money dedicated to hunting and fishing for year. Be careful what you wish for. The last year that I reviewed total expenditures were way more than total license revenues. This is true in part due to federal grants and federal tax allocations, but last time I looked the general fund was subsidizing the WDFW budget

Rich,

Do that and you'll be electing new staff every year. Doesn't matter who does it, they still have to follow the law and cannot prevent any treaty tribe from fully exercising their U.S. Supreme Court reviewed and approved fishing rights.

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

Salmo,

The problem is that they are being aloud to exercise more than their rights.

Surecatch AKA Dave Vedder:

I'm sure that monies need to come from the general fund to cover the "costs" of running the WDF.......but do they really need 1626 employees???????? beathead

If you haven't, take a look at the following site, shows the WA State Departments...go thur the list until you find "2003 Dept. Fish and Wildlife" click on that, will show you the salaries/or hourly wages of the personnel that "work"???? for WDF

It's no wonder, when you call to try and get something fix or something new done, you normally get the answer "sorry there is no money available or its not in the buget", so much monies go for personnel and other fixed costs, nothing for new or needed updating.

Dave: Here's an example of WDF not being "up to date" technology wise. I have called and asked to have some information "scanned" and sent to my email address. Reply, sorry we don't have a scanner!!!!! Now come on, just doesn't seem logical to have the computerized equipment and not have a simple scanner.... confused

That's like a fisherman having a $400 rod, $150+ reel, good line, all the other items and "then have no bait"....

"Worse day sport fishing, still better than the best day working" wink

Thats right drifter! Fire all the workers then we will have plenty of money to buy scanners! There would be no one to scan whatever it was you wanted scanned, but they could hire someone as a scanner operator to meet your needs.
I get tired of the the argument that WDFW has all these people that do nothing but collect a paycheck and tell you they don't have an answer to your questions. They are people who work hard and care about our resources. They get frustrated because they don't always have the resources to do their job they way they think it should be done.
I know everyone in the private sector works harder than everyone in the public sector (just ask them they will tell you it is true) and they pay more taxes and get less benefit from their tax dollars, etc...

If you have specific examples of waste lets here them. If your argument is simply there are too many employees and they don't do anything then I think your argument lacks substance.

Sorry about the rant.

baddawg:

You're telling me that all 1600+ WDF employees earn their salaries by doing a good job????

Wow................

Fish kills at different hatcheries, boat launch installed incorrectly, lack of land purchases for more river access, tribal negotiations that allow net fishing 5 days a week, until April 15, on rivers that have small returns of native stock steelhead, poor maintance of boat launch sites......want more????

No dog biscuits for you!!!!!!
