I'm thinking of giving jigging a try. It looks like a jig of 2-4oz. is the most common. Which rod is best suited for jigging? I'm thinking that a fast or x-fast action will be best. I was looking at a Loomis HSR1023C or a BBR965C. Which rod do you use?

I have a couple different rods that I prefer for jigging, my favorite being a Lamiglas G1302 T, its a 7'6" moderate action rod and I think its rated for 12-25 lbs. line, the other is a Quantum (only Quantum I like) which is 7'9" and is either a moderate or fast action rod rated for 15-30lbs. sorry I can't tell you which specific model the Quantum is, its in storage in Ak. Moderate to fast action is important to jigging, a slow action rod won't work the jig properly, ultimately I like the jig to rise and fall a minimum of 4 feet, 6 feet is even better, its hard to get a slow action (soft) rod to do this.

In agreement with AKKings, I don't like the BBR rods for jigging. We use them for what mooching we do. I believe you'd be much better off with an HSR. I use a 1021c when I get the chace to dance a jig.

The G 1302t is the Puget jigger rod and is still being made, the rods you mentioned would also be good jig rods I'm just partial to the shorter rods for jigging.

My daddy, bless his soul, taught me to jig using a hand line and an eight inch white jig. Lots of snappers and lings.

Berkley IM-7 15-40
Light, tough , sensative rod that handles braid well. It has a sensative tip with a good stiff butt that moves a jig. Enough rod for catching legel sturgeon in the Columbia, yet light enough to have fun with 6 lb blackmouth. Put a high speed (6 - 1) retrieve reel on it and you're set. Also you can buy them for around $50 on sale.

7 ft medium faster action spinning rod and reel with 8-10 lb mainline, caught some phat blackmouth around manchester and pnp with that setup. think of the 7 ft spinning rods like they use for bass, shakespears has some good ones reasonobly priced. make sure to use a line like mcCoy or another line with no memory and a 2 ft shock leader of 15 lb test, I just like using lighter spinning rods I guess

RR,
The HSR1021 was going to be my next choice. I guess I'll be building a new Rainshadow.
