Try finding some holes out near the mouth or in one of the sloughs. When low tide comes, quite a few fish will hunker down in these holes.

I fished the mouth of the Snohomish on the 2nd of Feb. No luck though. I hope they start biting soon.

Has anybody ever chased these fish from the bank?? I dont have a boat bigger than a cartopper, soooo would like plunking on the lower dike below I-5 be worth it, or do you need to find the slots and holes??

Bank fishing would be fairly easy on the stilliguamish or Skagit for Sturgeon, but finding a good spot from the bank on the Snohomish could be more difficult. They catch them below the Stanwood-Warmbeach road bridge on the Stilly. When I go duck hunting there, I see a couple of guys fishing for Sturgeon from the bank everytime.

I was fly fishing this fall for returning coho off the mouth of the Stilly. We were in a fog, and there was spashing all around.
As the fog lifted, I realized that the flat was full of sturgeon! They were tailwalking, swimming under the boat, it was amazing!
If I was going to fish for sturgeon, I would hit the Stilly.

If you fish the Stilly. I strongly recommend taht you watch out for hunters if waterfowl is open and if you are in a boat watch the tides. that area of the river can go from really deep to a trickle of water at low tide. Also lots of shark at the mouth.

The sharks would be dogfish. Lots of flounder too. Bring lots of sand clams (shrimp). The Texaco in Marysville sells the jumbos. Got a couple of other tips......E-Mail......

Tom & Catcher I would like to get together with you guys and do a trip. I would be willing to take my sled and split the gas. I have very limited, 2 trip, experiance on steamboat slough. Let me know if you are interested.
Be fun to get serveral boat and see if we can figure it out.

When people talk about fishing the mouth of the Stilly, is it the north channel or south? I've never gone to the mouth so don't know which one can handle a boat. Both look pretty shallow on the charts.

some of the best fishin on the sno will be from now thru may work from the i 5 bridge down.I prefer to hit it out in the salt flats in and around the log booms.theres a line of old wood barges out there that always hold fish near them.when your in there and on the out goin tide dont sit in one hole to long u have to move and cover some area for these fish.we dont have the concentration of fish as the columbia.20 to 25 mins and move never let your bait sit for more than about five to eight mins reel it in 5 or 6 feet at a time.ive seen oversize fish in the 12 ft range up near town of snohomish, use your depth finder and scan alot of areas.good luck

If you get too far downstream on the stilly watch out. The white channel markers that are there are in the wrong spots. The sand has built up in places and on low tide most of the channel is actually out of water. I use the Marine view drive launch there a lot when Kayak point is crowded. Also, the question about sharks, yes they are the dog fish. At low tide they get stuck in the pools of water at the mouth. Sometimes while duckhunting or sturgeon fishing we will see a pool of water with a ton of fins in it from all the dogfish stuck in the pool. Most of them are really small fish but fun to watch thrash around in the shallow water.
If you take the Lakewood exit to get to the launch, the exxon at Seven Lakes also sells shrimp. But I am gonna be fishing Steamboat slough for the next week or so. My neighbor came home Yesterday with a 67" fishfrom there.
