Saw nets being pulled above the I-5 bridge on saturday. Anyone with any info on these nets?

My guess is that it's the Tulalip Tribes fishing for winter steelhead. Yes, its and impact on wild fish, but just be thankfull the Tribes don't net the Snohomish year around like some Tribes.

Thats why the nates are hardly showing. We pulled two brats out of rieter last week with net marks on them. What a total joke! mad mad mad

While I have no personal knowledge of what you saw it is likely what you saw was some test netting by researchers studying the distribution and abundance of salmon fry using the estuary area of the Snohomish. A number of side channel habitats are being sampled (the fry being Identified and count) with either seines or fyke nets. Adult salmonids of any kind are rarely caught.

The tribal steelhead fishery has been closed for a month.
