Does anyone try fishing from shore with plugs?
does this method work effectively? what depth and water type works best for this? And most importantly, what setup works well?
thanks for the help

You bet, with a side plainer, works good and can be done in the same water that you would pull plugs in from a drift boat.
Set up so you can bring the plug past the plainer about 30' and start working the plug and plainer across the river by kind of pulling your rod up and down to get where you want and then just slowly walk it down river through the hole or you can let it sit in one spot and wait for the take down. Provided you don't have 30 boats coming down the river. fishy

OOPS! almost forgot, put a swivel on after the plainer and then tie on a leader about 5' then the plug.
That way the planer won't hit the fish in the face when he/she launches or gets near the surface and rolls and tail walks and......... darn now I got myself all worked up and I think I need to go fishing beer

I agree with Badbobber that sideplaner is very effective.

You may have trouble the first few times trying to launch it but once you get your plug swimming properly you can really cover some water.

I like to avoid areas with lots of other anglers because it can really take up alot area, and once you get the planer in the water you are going to want to be able to push it down the river without interfering with your fellow anglers.

My one other piece of advice would be to get a buddy to run one right along side yours two plugs are better than one.

Good luck

P.S. Oh yeah hold on tight that pole could get pulled right into the river if you are not paying attention.
