How deep do you need to go to catch blackmouth? What is the best kind of bait or rig to catch them on? I'm thinking about hitting it in the morning out in the sound. I haven't fished for blackmouth in decades.

i usually use spoons and hootchies behind a flasher. i have also gotten some on herring mooched off the bottom. Where will you be fishing?

The key to BM fishing is staying CLOSE to the bottom. If you're using downriggers bounce your ball off the bottom on occasion. If you're Mooching keep your bait within 5-10' of the bottom. A Blackmouth's sole mission is to eat. If you find bait you'll probably find fish.
