Charr,
Darren, Wes and I fished the Sol Duc last weekend, had a great time but only had a single take-down early Sun. while pulling plugs.
It was my first trip in a DB and every minute was awesome. Driving rain, wind and even some sun followed us down the river but it was worth every effort.
Had the opportunity to meet a two great new fishing partners and the chance at a nice fish...Wes and Darren were truly a pleasure to fish with, and I learned much about steelhead from them both...and they might have learned a good joke (or 2) from me.
Talked to the wdfw fish-checker fellow yesterday at the take-out and he told me there was indeed a 30 lb. fish taken last week.
Seems hot and cold, as Sat. am we saw a boat (ahead of us, of course!) hook-up on 5 fish before 9 am...we got bupkis. Yesterday when we were loading the boat the fish checker said we were boat 7 that he had checked (4 were run by guides) and had seen one 9 lb. hen, and no one else had any success.
Water is beautiful..crystal with unlimited visibility. We worked hard but came up empty handed...but that ain't to say I won't go back at the first opportunity!
Mike

I have my suspicions of who may have killed one! Some people just don't get it!

Well not putting my ten cents into a discussion on such a godly matter would just be way too non-fisherman of me so believe it or not a 30lb 4 oz. hatchery steelie dan was caught on the Nooch. stamped garunteed no fish story, or dude living his life in an alcoholic haze story either. ( I heard he caught it in clear water conditions using a K-16 kWIK FISH HOT PINK AND OLD RUSTY HOOKS)

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

FM ... I think they're referring to a wild fish that was killed out my way last Thursday. Remember, you don't have to kill it to get a top-notch mount. Try www.blackwatertrading.com. Only the very best ($30 + inch) skin mounts will stand a chance of lasting as long as one of these

Here's one I lifted from the other board. 40 x 20 ... no not a thirty pounder, but wow what a gorgeous buck! It was mentioned that it has been a very good year for BIG coastal natives south of the border. Sounds like the ocean has been very kind to this year's crop of 3-salt natives

No KK, that was a skin mount I had done over a decade ago. Salmon / steelhead repros were not comon then and I wish I could do it over again ... Today, we should all know and do a little better for the fish than most of us did 10, 20 or 30 years ago;) Luke has done several fish for our guests over the last few years, ranging from std. mounts like the one I have to a full coffee table mount of a 29.5# Hoh fish. If you need more info on Luke, drop me an email
