This , true as stated, is an outrage. Mike Gilchrist if you are reading please step up to the plate on this. I have copies of the request and it appears to be nothing more than a lobbying effort for commercial fishing and flys in the face of the wild steelhead release rule. What the hell is going on at WDFW?

I thought Cindy got reassigned. She needs to be fired.

Many different groups are fighting against this in many ways. Some plans I am aware of, some I am not. The issue is not being ignored, but it would be foolish to have detailed discussions in public view.

It is good that the information gets out that the proposal is going forward. This is a very serious issue with very serious consequences.

So let me get this straight... The WDFW supports the killing of Wild Steelhead...

And now the WDFW wants to discontinue the hatchery Sea-run Cutthroat program on the Cowlitz???

What the hell is going on with the WDFW?

How do we get those bozos out of office? These actions deserve media attention.

Representative Jim Buck has been saying for some time that WDFW has gone way beyond their mandate.

If you want to do something about this problem go to Jim Buck\'s website and tell him that you agree and ask what you can do to help.

Or you can just stay here and complain.

I attended the February 6 commission meeting and expressed my disgust with this proposal directly to Mr. Roehl. He assured me that Koenings request has "no chance" for approval by NOAA before summer at the latest and that there would be public comment before anything important happened. Huh????

Jim Buck doesn't have a sparkling reputation as a conservationist

I have had several conversations with Jim Buck on the phone over the years. My first one started when he read an email that slammed him pretty bad. I put my home phone number in the email and he called about 30 seconds after I sent it to yell at me. Since then I ahve found Jim to be very knowledgeable about fishing issues and more importantly about how politics work in Olympia. He is not someone I always agree with since he tends to support commercial fishing but he is someone worth talking to.

With that said,. I am trying to discover what the motive is for WDFW making the request of NMFS. The request is some 26 pages long and obviously took some time to prepare. The document is full of graphs and "scientific" documentation to support their request to raise mortality levels three fold.

Did you forget that WDFW never supported the wild steelhead release rule? I am upset about this but come on wake up and smell the roses guys. The tribes and the commercial guys don't give a rip about your wild steelhead release rule.

AuntyM....Whaddaya mean you don't care what Grandpa would do? Grandpa would ban all the nets if he could. Don't you care about that? Grandpa would take some folks out into the woods and duct tape them to a tree too but I suppose you might not go along with that.

Bruce....of course the tribes don't care about WSR...DUH!!
