In an earlier post, Bob posted the contact info. for the powers that be at Olympic National Park.

I just read that the ONP Staff has recomended that the Superintendent of Olympic National Park follow the lead of the WDFW and enact Wild Steelhead Release regulations from April 1st on.

Now is the time to write your emails!

Bill Laitner-Park Superintendent Ph# 360-565-3004

His email: bill_laitner@nps.gov

...and I am sure that those opposed to statwide wild steelhead release that read this board will come out in force with emails against the proposal, so now is the time to step up and ask the Park Superintendent to mandate that all wild steelhead should be released on the Queets.

Wouldn't state-wide rules already apply in this case? Or does the park unilaterally make its own?

Nope...Olympic National Park sets their own regulations with help from their own biologists etc....they have jurisdiction over their waters.

I used to hike and pack horses upriver from the campground and fish near Tletshey crk.(dont remember the exact spelling). We rarely retained any in the old days simply because we didn't have refrigeration. I admit we did keep one to eat once. It was the best fish I ever tasted. Nowadays, I would never even consider keeping one. I would like to do that trip again. We C&R'd great big dollys, and saw kings laying in the pools (no biters) and I even caught a huge trout that looked like a rainbow (17 inches) that I released. That hike is a lot of fun also due to the great scenery and wildlife sightings (Elk, Deer and Bear). If anyone is willing to walk at least five miles, you'll have a great trip. It was a summer trip and you can figure out exactly when. Since I got carried away typing, I can't even remember what the topic was... rolleyes
