i looked for the upper bogie launch (above 101) weekend before last with no luck on undie rd. should i be looking on the other side of the river? I want to float my cataraft doen to hatchery to C&R some native steelhead later this month.

fished the satsop last sunday on rising water- pretty dead- boaters didn't hit much either - itchen to get back out to the coastal rivers.

Not that familiar with the stretch, but I've heard of access off Dowans Cr Rd that goes up the south side of the upper Bogey.
I guess my question would be though, why bother? Even if you drop in at the Bogachiel State Park it's still about a 9 mile float down to the hatchery.

You will need a 4x4 on both sides to launch.

Last time I was up thier there was still a launch on the undie road side you just have to look real close to find it. It could be gone with the water they had this year.

there is a WDFW launch on Downs Creek road near the end but you need a 4x4 to launch.

It's not a 9 mile float to the hatchery. It's about 3 1/2. It's not even 9 if you go all the way to Wilson's.

Downs Creek to 101 is a real short float. Not sure how far but you can do it in a couple hours and still hit everything.

lazydrifter,

I'm still thinking 101 to hatchery is definately closer to 9 river mi. (like say 8.5 ;\) ) than 3.5 so that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Upper Dowans to Undie if they're still there @ 4mi (give or take).
But hey what do I know?
Don't answer that, my wife already has. \:D

Thanks guys, I'll stand corrected. I guess the ol' memory just ain't what it used to be. Who knows, maybe I'm thinking upper Dowans to Hatchery.
So Lofty, your mission should you choose to accept it is: let us know how it goes.
Elkrun, good luck on that mooched drift from LZY. Flattery might be sufficient but a turnaround on that stretch can't hurt either.
