Me and two buddies floated the 7400 long drift Saturday. We hooked 9, boated 7. All dark really trashed natives except for 2, of which one was a very surprising bright chrome hatchery hen about 10 lbs. and the other a dark hatchery hen about 6 lbs. Pretty slow for this time of year. In years past in the month of march we usually have double digit days of not only hooking but catching. The fish were really dark and really beat, looking like last run fish. We saw some spawning beds but not near as many as last year. The water was very very low and clear and we saw very few fish on the beds. Only 3 for 13 miles of river. Last year we would see 3 or more on one small flat of the river. Very sad for the Nootch.

Would have to agree with that assessment. No new fish down in the lower end either. I floated Black Creek to Elk's Bar to help my daughter with a science project to collect water samples. Of course I had to take a few rods along so she could side-drift between samples. Never got a bite, and never saw a fish even in the low clear summer-like flows (unless you count two small trout/large smolt that we saw feeding on top). Talked to some plunkers who never got a bite either. Nice peaceful afternoon float despite the lack of fish.

Somthing needs to be done about the comercial rape of coastal wild steelhead runs.

I think the tribes should fear resentment from the WRS ruleing and there will be plenty, much deserved.

It will be up to them to do the right thing or become a target of alot of bad press in the future.
