Has anyone ever floated this area. I always stopped and looked at Rainbow falls and think it would be a hoot at good flows. It also looks like tons of mint water above and below there. I used to do a lot of canoeing around Rodchester down but never prospected above. Any log jams, weirs, general nastiness?

MikeK,

I'll give you as diplomatic of an answer that I can come up with... \:D

I fished that area when I lived down in Onalaska, and there were a few other guys I saw down there fishing, too...usually the same few guys.

I fished it, found a few spots I liked, moved away, and haven't yet been back down.

I think you'll find a bit of good information there if you read between the lines!

Fish on...

Todd

P.S. Step up a few pounds on your line strength down there.

Mikek,

I've floated in my canoe from about 2 or 3 miles upstream of Pe Ell down to Rainbow Falls. The canyon area upstream of Pe Ell is very beautiful, some dicey drops (I swamped once), limited holding water in this area. From Pe Ell downstream is easy floating, and there is a fair bit of holding water, and some spawning habitat. Not nearly so scenic, and farm odor can be pervasive. I was canoeing, not fishing, but did see one steelhead.

I might go back again and float from Rainbow Falls to Centralia. Probably need a very long day.

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

Mike this one of the most beautful river in are state.I do fish it from time to time. PeEll to the falls is a good day trip below the falls can get slow in spot. The falls to centralia would take you three days. But say the falls to the south fork would be a good float. The south fork is at that narrow bridge on hwy 6.I hope this helps. Oh yes this is the chehalis were talking about you guys.
