Well, my dad and I will be going out on the 14th for halibut, but neither of us have been out to the tip of the penninsula before. I live in Federal Way. Should we go around the sound, or should we drive up north and take the ferry across? I think it will end up being about the same cost either way. We're going out the day before and spending the night in his camper, so time isn't really that much of an issue. What's the easiest way to get there?

When I go, I drive around via Hwy 16 to the Hood Canal Bridge to Hwy 104 then to Hwy 101. Stay on 101 till you get to Sappho then take Hwy 113. Follow 113 till it re-connects with Hwy 112 to Neah Bay.

I'd go the way E.Limits suggested - for sure.

From Federal Way it should be a pretty easy trip!

Since I don't have a boat trailer, I run up in my boat.

I go to Port Townsend in the evening (25nm from Edmonds). I start real early the next day (when the water is smooooth) and run the remaining 75nm to NB. I'm there by 9AM.

I live on the Kitsap pennisula and I agree with E-Z, my brothers and I go to Seiku a couple of times a year and they live in Everett and Renton and they drive down to Tacoma and then up on 16 to the Hood canal bridge.

A trip with the boat trailor on the ferry will cost around $50 to $60 each way!!!!!!!

Sometimes it's shorter (and cheaper) to drive around.

If you're still considering taking the ferry, you might think about taking the Seattle to Bremerton boat. It's a little longer boat ride, but still costs the same and is rarely backed up. Leaving Edmonds on a Friday afternoon or Kingston on a Sunday can take hours to even get on a ferry. Not fun when it's 80 degrees and you're stuck in your car just wanting to get out on the water or get home. From Bremerton it's only about a half hour drive to the Hood Canal Bridge. The less time on I-5 the better.

If the total length of your rig is over 50' (full size truck and 21' boat on trailer), then the fare is $75 plus passengers. The WSF really sticks it to boaters. I'd drive around.

Definately drive around. From Federal Way it'll save drive time and the summertime ferry fee. (Though fuel is isn't exactly cheep either. Geesh! )

Well, we don't have a boat, we're going out on a charter (JJ's) and we just have the camper, which fits in the bed of my dad's pickup. We're worried about height restrictions on the ferries, but we don't have a trailer or anything. I also made a mistake on the date, we're going on the 13th.

Since we're not doing any towing, which would be best? Driving around or taking the ferry?

If you live in Federal Way take the Narrows bridge and drive up for sure.
I might say otherwise if you lived anywhere north of Renton.
