Can anyone give me some info on when and where to catch a few shad? Is there a lot of bank access? How about campgrounds? thanks

It should start pretty good in a couple weeks to a month.About anywhere from Bonnevile down to Camas. There are a few camping spots in the area.Beacon Rock.State park.Plus a little campground just before that.Expect crowds but you can stiil have fun.Do a little exploring and you can get away from them a little bit.

The first week of July is usually the peak of the run. I will make a trek down by that time. Pretty simple fishing, Any small fluttery spoons ( sz. 0 dick nites, Hildabrant little shavers or flickers). Shad darts will also work great of you can buy a pack of painted crappy jig heads, I think the darts work better because the shape makes them wiggle thru the water. Simple silver metalic beads work too, Just slide them down a leader tied on a sz. 2 octopus hook. Take allot of gear with you and don't be suprized if you accedently snag one of the big dino's that swim by (sturgeon). vary you retrieve they can be very pick on that. Save some for crab bait, It works better than anything i've ever used. Good luck!

check out this website:

Click the "Bonneville" link and it will tell you how many shad have crossed the fish ladder.

I fished them with the masses right below Bonneville dam and caught tons of them. It was fun.
