A previous thread got one of the P.P. readers thinking about the Northwest Outdoor Writers Association. After we exchanged a few e-mails he decided to join. So I thought I would post this for any of you who are outdoor writers and don not belong or for any of you who want to be outdoor writers.

For many years NOWA has required that members be established writers. But we recently added a new membership category for apprentice members. The only requirement is that you are serious about becoming an outdoor writer.

It is the world best job wit the world's worst pay. But if you have the passion it is a very rewarding job.

The benefits of belonging to NOWA are tremendous. We provide mentoring, association with 165 of the top writers in the Northwest and lots of help finding markets and learning to become a better photographer and or writer.

Here is a link to our web site.

http://nowa.ws/

Shoot me e-mail if you are interested.

We also have a membership category for industry related companies that want to be able to provide our membership with information on their products and services.

Dave,

Thanks for that great link. Such an association is what I have been looking for, but had yet to ask about.

Am working on my first book, now. Don't know if it will have a market, but am writing it all the same.

My only published work, to date, was in an issue of Disabled Outdoors over 15 years ago. Certainly not qualifying for any regular membership, so would have to be a "Golden Door" member. Not worried about the voting rights, but the education and networking that could result from such an association.

Dave,
Do you have to be able to catch fish and all? That leaves me out!

Thanks for the link though. I would love to write in that venue.

GF: No you don't have to catch fish. Pat McManus, one of our best, often brags that he can never catch a fish. I caught one once, I think, no wait, maybe that was Bill H. Well I do know some guys who catch fish.

I have done many how-to articles on things I know little about. I simply find the expert, interview him, and tell my readers this is what he had to say.

I'll second Dave's comments on NOWA and OWAA. We work to help each other in this business of outdoor communications. New members are welcome. I have often been asked what do I get out of being a member. My stock answer is you get out of it what you put into it.
