The Ocean Shores marina is owned by the Quinaults and the marina is not maintained - the entrance goes dry at a 0 tide. If you can work around launching and retreiving around high tide then getting over the bar is just the same as if you launched at Westport. Otherwise, if you want to get back in at low tide, launch at Westport, or if you want to save driving around launch at Aberdeen and run out the navigation channel.

The fishing was GREAT! The catching could have used some improvement however........

If you have a choice, launch from Westport.

Obviously, cross the bar at high slack or low slack & time your run back in the same. Follow someone out if you can.

Salmon University website has a fairly detailed description for bar crossings at Grays Harbor.

i "hug" the south jetty (in & out), usually you can see the good stuff across the bad stuff from the good stuff that you are in, there are crab pots just across the bar but usually they aren't out past 6 unless its the odd one that gets blown out ...

Hug the south jetty???? There is a submerged jetty right off the west end of the south jetty (jetty cotinues on underwater). I've seen some very serious water pile up there. If visability is limited you could be heading straight into a very dangerous situation. Be carefull!!!!!

Timing should be great for an early morning outbound crossing and an afternoon return crossing on opening day of salmon June 27..

Pray for small seas for us guys in the wee little boats.
